Fair Play synopsis: What is the Netflix movie about?

Phoebe Dynevor has traded her beautiful Bridgerton gowns in for fancy corporate pantsuits in her new Netflix movie! The star rose to fame following her role as Daphne Bridgerton in the streamer’s hit period romance. And while things certainly got steamy with her handsome beau, The Duke of Hastings, in the first season of the show, things are going to a whole new level in erotic thriller film Fair Play.

The production previously made its theatrical debut in select theaters on Sept. 29, 2023. But now, us Dynevor and Bridgerton fans will get to see the actress shine in a new role when the movie begins streaming Friday, Oct. 6 on Netflix. I for one definitely can’t wait!

The story is centered around a young couple, Emily (Dynevor) and Luke, in the “cutthroat” financial world, per the synopsis. When a promotion comes up at the firm they both work at, things begin to “sour” in the relationship. How far will they go to get what they want? We’re about to find out soon enough!

Per Netflix’s Tudum and the trailer, it’s Emily who gets the promotion over her fiancée. The financial analysts at hedge fund One Crest Capital have had to keep their relationship a secret from the company. The story will explore “deeply rooted beliefs” about gender dynamics at work, as well as in relationships. Sign me up, I’m ready to check this film out!

What to expect from the erotic thriller movie starring Phoebe Dynevor

The erotic thriller isn’t too long, coming in at 133 minutes or an hour and 50 minutes. That’s definitely easy enough to sit through! As previously mentioned, Phoebe Dynevor takes on the co-lead role of Emily in the movie. Most know the talented actress from Bridgerton, but she’s starting to expand into other roles as well. And we’re so happy for her! Other than Fair Play, she has two other films in the works. Those are The Inheritance and Anniversary. Well whatever she stars in, you can bet I’ll check it out!

Taking on the role of her onscreen love interest is Alden Ehrenreich as Luke. The actor has previously played Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Eddie in Cocaine Bear, and most recently had a supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Rounding out the cast list in the Netflix movie are Eddie Marsan as Campbell, Rich Sommer as Paul, and Sebastian De Souza as Rory.

Fair Play begins streaming Friday, Oct. 6, 2023 on Netflix.
