There’s no denying that All American is one of the best sports drama series airing. The fifth season finished its run on The CW in May 2023 and arrived just eight days later on Netflix. Of course, it didn’t take long for Netflix Lifers to binge-watch the 20-episode season on the streamer, and now they’re wondering what’s next in All American season 6.

All American is known for its jaw-dropping season finale cliffhangers, but the fifth season’s finale might just take the cake. Honestly, the fifth season in its entirety was full of many twists and turns. I mean, no one was expecting the death of a beloved character.

The sixth season began airing on The CW on April 1, 2024 after returning later than usual due to the strikes. The network later ultimately ordered two more episodes of the original 13-episode order, making the season a total of 15 episodes. One month after the season premiere, The CW announced that season 6 will air its finale on Monday, July 15, which gives us insight into its Netflix release date.

Season 6 will be on Netflix this summer

Now that we know that season 6 will officially wrap up its run on The CW on July 15, we can better predict when the complete season will begin streaming on Netflix. New seasons usually begin streaming on Netflix about one week after their televised finales. Eight days after July 15 would bring the potential Netflix release date to Tuesday, July 23. Don't mark your calendars just yet! That's still tentative and has not been confirmed by Netflix.

Prior to receiving this information about the season finale, we had predicted that 13 weeks after April 1 would allow for the season to wrap at the end of June 2024. But The CW went ahead and ordered two more episodes of All American season 6, extending its run. We also predicted that the season would hit Netflix sometime in summer 2024, even guessing July 2024. The stars aligned! We'll share confirmation on the release date as soon as it arrives from Netflix.

The CW previously renewed the sports drama for a sixth season back in January 2023. This was considered an early renewal since the fifth season was still airing at the time. On Feb. 15, 2024, the network announced that season 6 would make its premiere on Monday, April 1 at 8/7c and air on Monday nights thereafter, also streaming on The CW app and website.

Here’s what Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at The CW, had to say about the renewal:

"Over the last five seasons, ‘All American’ has established itself as one of the all-time CW flagship franchises. ‘All American’ is not only the network’s youngest series, but also the strongest performer when combining all our platforms. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, the entire creative team and the incredible cast for another season of captivating family drama."

Although The CW had originally slated the sixth season to premiere in the fall of 2023, the then-ongoing writers’ and actor’s strikes pushed the season into 2024. Both of the strikes came to a resolution by the end of 2023, which allowed for the writers and actors to get back to work on the highly anticipated new season in 2024.

According to The CW president, season 7 could happen

Along with the announcement of the season 6 premiere date, The CW's president of entertainment Brad Schwartz shared an exciting update for All American fans who might be concerned that season 6 could be the show's last. Given the state of the network and the extensive cancellations of the past few years, the fates of the last three remaining CW shows of old are up in the air. But according to the president, there could be a potentially bright future for All American.

As reported by Deadline, here's what Schwartz said about the show's future:

"CBS and Warner Bros have been so wonderful working with us on those shows and we’ve gotten both of those shows to an economic area, where as long as they keep rating, there’s no reason why we can’t keep them. It’s no longer a financial question, it’s a creative and performance question."

Brad Schwartz, The CW

The cost-cutting measures at The CW included reducing its reliance on shows from Warner Bros. and CBS, though Deadline states that the network has now been able to lower the licensing fees for All American, All American: Homecoming, and Walker that would allow them to continue ordering and airing new seasons. In the recent past, financial reasons were cited for cancellations, but it seems that these three shows were able to luck out and potentially stick around should the ratings suffice. Keep your fingers crossed for All American season 7!
