After months of disappointing news, The Night Agent season 2 has received its most exciting update in months: season 2 is officially back in the works! That’s right, we’re finally getting one step closer to a new season of Netflix’s incredible conspiracy thriller actually becoming a reality following its renewal back in March!

With the Writers Guild of America strike officially over now that a new deal between the WGA and the AMPTP has been inked, Netflix is wasting no time in getting back to work on its biggest series. Early reports indicated Netflix was prioritizing Stranger Things and Wednesday over all other shows; however, it seems there is at least one other hit series at the t

op of the streaming service’s list, that show being this year’s breakout hit, The Night Agent.

Now that the WGA strike is over, writers rooms are being opened for hit series and it appears The Night Agent is going to be among the first Netflix scripted shows to get back to work! Writer Corey Deshon broke the good news on Sept. 29 when he revealed that the season 2 writers’ room is officially back up and running!

So what does this mean?

Well, the biggest takeaway fans should walk away with is that production is finally back underway which means the writers can begin working on scripts for the season after months on the picket lines. This means that the show is one step closer to the start of filming which is expected to conclude once the actors’ union strikes a new deal with the AMPTP which will bring an end to the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The Night Agent season 2 was negatively impacted by the strikes

The Night Agent was among the many shows that were directly impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, with production on the show’s second season hitting a major wall just months after Netlfix renewed the show.

In May 2023, the WGA officially went on strike which halted production on some of the biggest shows on the air including The Night Agent. Series creator Shawn Ryan took to Twitter just days after the WGA strike officially began on May 2 where he confirmed that production on season 2 has officially been halted due to the strike.

“I’d rather be writing Season 2 of The Night Agent for Netflix rather than picketing them, but all writers need a fair deal before we can resume our work,” Ryan said at the time, marking the first official confirmation that The Night Agent had been directly affected by the WGA strike.

Fast forward to July, Ryan dished out an even more disappointing update when he revealed the strikes had caused a delay in the start of filming. “If the studios had made a fair offer on May 1 we would be shooting Season 2 of The Night Agent next month,” Ryan teased confirming the original plan was for season 2 to shoot in August as part of Netflix’s plan to release season 2 in 2024.

Could The Night Agent season 2 arrive in 2024 still?

Now that the WGA strike has come to an end, production on season 2 is finally back up and running after a summer full of disappointing updates. The worst seems to finally be behind us now that a deal with the writers has been reached as the creative teams are able to start putting pen to paper in crafting season 2’s storylines.

This is a huge step in the right direction as without scripts, filming cannot begin or even be scheduled. Now that scripts are being worked on again, Netflix will be able to start production once the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes. This means filming could begin within weeks of SAG-AFTRA inking a new deal with the AMPTP, allowing The Night Agent season 2 to be completed in time for the season to still be released in 2024.

Given the delay in filming, we know season 2 won’t be arriving in Spring 2024; however, there is a strong possibility the show could be ready to go by Summer 2024 or Fall 2024. It helps that the show doesn’t have a ton of special effects which can help streamline the process of getting the new season out for fans to enjoy.

It’s also incredibly promising that The Night Agent is one of the first Netflix scripted shows to return to production post-WGA strike. Clearly, Netflix is making the show a priority which is amazing because the series deserves to be at the top of Netflix’s priority list after its amazing first season!

There’s no doubt The Night Agent is one of the best shows on Netflix right now. Stay tuned for more news about season 2!
