Everything we know about the Devil May Cry anime series coming to Netflix

From My Happy Marriage to Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, Netflix is bringing anime fans all the very best titles that we all know and love. And it’s safe to say that the streaming service isn’t stopping anytime soon, as Devil May Cry is the next title Netflix is adapting and is set to release in the near future.

While the news of the adaptation is still relatively new, we still have some updates that you’re definitely going to want to know before the anime officially releases on the streaming service.

Without further ado, here’s everything we know so far about Devil May Cry!

Inspired by the 2001 video game of the same name, Devil May Cry follows the life of Dante, a demon hunter who seeks to bring peace to his world by slaying evil demons left and right. But he will soon realize that he’s more like these demons than he thought, as he has devil-like powers that have yet to be awakened.

What will the Devil May Cry anime be about?

Here’s what you can expect, per the Netflix logline:

"In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom game, sinister forces are atplay to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all isDante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangsaround his neck."

With this being an adaptation, there’s bound to be a few things that Netflix adds or removes, so we’ll have to wait for the site to release an official synopsis and/or logline to know more. But for now, expect the gist of your beloved video game series to stay the same.

A release date for Devil May Cry hasn’t been announced just yet. However, since Netflix announced the series in September 2023, it wouldn’t surprise us if the site was eyeing for a release date sometime in 2024, especially if production has already started. Be sure to take our 2024 prediction with a grain of salt while we wait to know more very soon.

How many episodes will Devil May Cry have on Netflix?

According to IGN, Adi Shankar, the producer behind the upcoming title, revealed that Devil May Cry is slated to have about eight episodes in the first season. (The episode count may change given how many years it’s been since Shankar initially gave us this information.) Shankar also let the media outlet know that eight episodes aren’t all that’s in store for this anime series, as he aims to tell this story across multiple seasons.
