10 things nobody wants to admit about Stranger Things
8. Will is an underutilized character
Poor Will. Will is one of my favorite characters on the show, but he’s really only used as a plot device as the one who’s being targeted by the Upside Down. He’s more than a supporting character at this point, but barely. Nearly every storyline he has is about his connection to the supernatural forces in Hawkins, while the others have more complex issues. Now that we know for sure that Will is gay, I hope his identity is explored more in the fifth season. Noah Schnapp is a great actor and I feel like he’s not meeting his full potential with the role.
In any case, we know Will will play a bigger role in Stranger Things season 5, finally, as confirmed by the Duffer Brothers. And thank goodness for that!
7. The show ruined Jonathan
Okay… what happened to Jonathan in Stranger Things season 4!? Throughout the show, he’s been such a caring, shy guy with a variety of interests, but in the fourth season, he’s a stoner with no ambition. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against stoners, but Jonathan virtually serves no purpose in the latest season, which is not fair to his character development. Sure, he might be sad being away from Nancy, but he’s so one-dimensional now. He deserves better than to be used just for comic relief.
Jonathan is one of the more complex characters in the show, at least between the first three seasons, as we get to watch him come out of his shell and grow up into a man he should be proud to be. However, the fourth season is so disappointing for his character development. I hope the series shines a better light on him in the final season!
