Song of the Bandits is a new Korean Western series developed by Studio Dragon, the production company behind other Netflix Korean shows like Love Alarm, My Holo Love, Sweet Home and Crash Landing on You. In addition, Hwang Jun-hyeok directed the episodes from scripts written by Han Jeong-hoon.

It’s a period drama set in the ’20s. Korea is under Japanese rule, and many Koreans have been uprooted from their place of living and expelled to Japan. Those who head to the Gando region, the land of lawlessness, settle down and unite to protect their land and loved ones even if it means losing their lives.

Kim Nam-gil plays the role of Lee Yoon, a former Japanese soldier who leaves everything behind and heads to Gando. There, he becomes a bandit to protect the land and its people. Kim is known for his previous roles in the Korean movies Pandora, Memoir of a Murderer, The Pirates and Portrait of a Beauty. He also had roles in the Korean shows The Fiery Priest and Queen Seondeok.

Well-known South Korean singer and actress Seohyun portrays the role of Nam Hee-shin, an independence fighter who hides her identity by working as a Japanese railroad bureau employee. Seohyun is best known for being in the top K-POP girl group, Girls’ Generation. She’s also had roles in the Korean series Bad Thief, Good Thief, Time, Private Lives and Jinxed at First. Also, she starred in the main role of Jung Ji-woo in the Netflix movie Love and Leashes.

There are nine episodes in the first season. Additionally, each episode is in the 40 to 60-minute range.

The show is rated TV-MA, meaning it’s meant to be viewed by mature audiences only. It was given this age rating for gore, strong language, smoking, and graphic violence. All of the content we just listed would be considered inappropriate for young kids to be watching. So, we recommend watching this series when no kids are around.
