Love Is Blind season 5 is a season chockfull of surprises and firsts, including being the season with one of the fewest couples to get engaged in the pods. But there are a few twists more significant than that revealed at the end of the season’s third and fourth episodes.

SPOILERS ahead for Love Is Blind season 5

At the end of Love Is Blind season 5 episode 3, Uche revealed to Aaliyah that he had prior history with another member of the pod squad…none other than Aaliyah’s close friend, Lydia. I’m pretty confident that’s never occurred on the show before, unless I’m forgetting something. But what are the odds that two people who previously dated would both end up on the same season of Love Is Blind?

Aaliyah is understandably upset by this news, especially since Uche had given her a pretty hard time about the fact she once cheated in a relationship several years ago. He had a lot of nerve putting her through the wringer over that while hiding this giant secret.

So, what exactly went down between Lydia and Uche in the past? Well, we can only reveal what happens in the first four episodes for now, but here’s the rundown.

Love Is Blind season 5: What happened between Uche and Lydia?

According to Uche, he ended things with Lydia because he didn’t feel that they were compatible. However, he says he still wishes the best for her and hopes she can find someone to be happy with through this experiment or otherwise. He also thinks she’s a great friend and a very trustworthy person.

But Aaliyah realizes that Lydia has been dropping little hints, saying things like “I see myself in you,” and giving Aaliyah the perfect advice to deal with Uche when they had their struggles amid the conversation about infidelity. That said, Uche assures Aaliyah that he was never in love with Lydia and is 100% over her.

On the flip side, Uche reveals Lydia has him blocked on Instagram and he isn’t sure how Lydia is feeling about the situation. They also discuss Milton and Lydia. Uche doesn’t think Milton is ready to get engaged and he worries that Lydia will get hurt. Aaliyah is concerned that she’ll be put in a situation where she has to worry about her husband and close friend having a connection behind her back, but Uche does his best to put her mind at ease.

Initially, it seems like Aaliyah and Uche might be able to work through this situation. Then Aaliyah has a conversation with Lydia that paints a slightly different picture than the one Uche presented.

Lydia starts revealing tons of details about Uche’s life, like the name of his dog, the kind of car he drives, his favorite whiskey, his favorite color, even, it’s…a lot.

Aaliyah gets freaked out and frustrated with Lydia for carrying on and not taking the hint that she’s obviously uncomfortable. Lydia becomes overbearing and can’t seem to stop making comparisons between herself and Aaliyah despite also assuring Aaliyah that the “past is in the past.”

But how long ago was that past? It sounds like Uche and Lydia were in a rather serious relationship for a few months, enough that Lydia met his friends and spent significant time with him and in his house. Then Lydia drops the biggest bombshell of all: she and Uche saw each other again this past January and had sex, just three months before they started the whole experiment.

That’s a pretty big thing for Uche to have left out. It’s not like their whole relationship is some distant memory, they were together just months before the show.

Aaliyah leaves the Love Is Blind experiment due to the Uche and Lydia bombshell

Even after everything, Uche and Aaliyah try to work things out and seem to be back on track. But when Uche prepares to return to the pods and visit Aaliyah again to propose, he finds out that she has left the experiment. He’s understandably devastated by her decision, but I can’t stay I blame her.

I certainly think there is more to the story with Uche and Lydia and I’m starting to question Lydia’s motives a bit, especially the way she started overwhelming Aaliyah with information. What’s the truth? What really happened between them? Will Uche and Aaliyah get another chance? We’ll find out more as the season continues!
