What is Crossroads starring Britney Spears about?
Crossroads came out in 2002 and starred Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, Anson Mount, Dan Akroyd, and Kim Cattrall. Britney plays Lucy Wagner, the sweet girl who hasn’t done anything wrong in her life. Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning play her former best friends, Kit and Mimi. And guess who wrote it? Shonda Rhimes!
When they were younger, the friends made a wish box. Inside the box, they put something they wanted to do when they were older. On the night of graduation, they open the box and see their wishes. Lucy wanted to find her mom who abandoned her, Kit wanted to get married, and Mimi wanted to travel to California.
Well, with nothing else to do, they decide to go to California the next day. Kit’s going to see her fiance, Mimi is going to an audition (while very pregnant), and Lucy is going to find her mom in Arizona. But they aren’t going alone.
When they all show up the next morning to start their journey, Mimi brings Ben and his convertible. None of the girls really knows him but he’s their only chance to make it to California.
The trip is not uneventful. First, the car breaks down and they have to sing for tips to pay for the repairs. This is one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. The three girls singing “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” is not to be missed.
Ben and Lucy also end up getting close and sleeping together and the girls finally talk about what broke up their friendship and what they want from their lives now.
The trip to see Lucy’s mom and Kit’s fiance doesn’t go as planned but those difficult moments bring the friends even closer together. Is this the best piece of cinema ever? No, but it’s fun and entertaining and if there’s anything we’ve learned during this pandemic, it’s that we could all use some more of that.
