Across the first season of Netflix’s newest original docuseries Quarterback, NFL fans were treated to unprecedented access to three of the biggest names in the NFL.

Over the course of the 8-episode season, audiences got to go behind the scenes to see just how much work goes into being a starting quarterback in one of the biggest sports leagues in the world.

For the show’s first season, Netflix managed to pull together a diverse group of start quarterbacks including the reigning Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes; first-year Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback Marcus Mariota who made his debut as a Falcon in 2022; and longtime Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The show allowed fans the chance to follow these three quarterbacks from the first snap of Week 1 leading up to the Super Bowl in a new light. While the show brought highlights from the game, the heart of the show was getting to see the work that goes unnoticed leading up to game day. We also got the chance to see a more personal side of the players with glimpses into their personal life, which allowed fans to get to know the players even better.

It was an amazing series and a second season is expected to be coming in 2024. Sadly, it doesn’t seem that the stars of season 1 will be back.

Will Patrick Mahomes be in Quarterback season 2?

Although Patrick Mahomes appeared as one of the three stars in the first season of Netflix’s hit series, the Chiefs’ star quarterback will not be returning for Quarterback season 2. That’s right, Mahomes will not be in the second season of the show.

It was assumed that season 2 would look to bring in a new batch of quarterbacks, but Netflix had never confirmed this. However, in a new interview with Audacy’s 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, Mahomes has revealed that he will indeed not be coming back for the show’s upcoming season.

"“I’m not planning on doing this upcoming season. I’m going to try to let other people have a chance at it, but it’s definitely something I’m open to doing further down the line,” Mahomes shared. “I think it’d be out of what the show wants to entail in showing different perspectives if I did back-to-back years. We’ll let some other guys get out there and maybe later in my career I’ll hop back on there.”"

Clearly, Mahomes isn’t opposed to returning for future seasons, but he’s not coming back for the show’s second season which makes sense. As Mahomes pointed out in his interview, the point of the show is to bring fans unique perspectives and to do so it needs to bring in new talent.

With Mahomes ruled out for season 2, it seems certain Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota also likely won’t be back as Netflix looks to bring in a new trio to star in the show’s second season.

Next. Every NFL quarterback who has turned down Quarterback season 2. dark
