Is Outer Banks season 4 coming in 2023? (here’s what we know)

I’ll be honest. With all the events that happened in Outer Banks season 3, the death of Ward Cameron and Big John, and the fact that the Pogues found the gold, I thought that was going to be the end of the road for this adventure-loving group. But the series managed to surprise us and ended on a cliffhanger with the group ready to hunt down a new treasure in season 4! So when is the next chapter of this story coming?

We know that initial filming reportedly started in June 2023, and work on the fourth season was underway. The cast and crew were seen where the show has been filming every season in Charleston, South Carolina. So does that mean we can possibly expect to see the new season this year? Read on below.

Is Outer Banks season 4 coming in 2023?

Outer Banks season 4 most likely will not be coming to Netflix in 2023. While filming on the series was on schedule at first, production has been indefinitely delayed because of the writers strike and the actors strike that happened earlier this summer.

On May 2, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, followed by the actors union – Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). The group went on strike on July 14. This means that none of the writers and actors are working on most projects, though there are some exceptions. But unfortunately, Outer Banks is not one of them. Because of this, filming has been delayed which also affects the release date of season 4.

We don’t have an exact premiere date yet, but I don’t think we can expect to see Outer Banks season 4 until mid to late 2024 depending on how long the strikes go on for. As of Sept. 9, 2023, neither group has come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), who represents the studios. That means like most other projects, including Stranger Things season 5, a resumed filming date and a release date for the new season remain unknown until contracts are signed.
