We’re officially back to the fictional North California town of Virgin River, where gossip spreads fast. The latest season of the beloved Netflix Original is finally here, with the first 10 episodes being released on Thursday, Sept. 7. Fans can expect the remaining two episodes of the season — which are holiday episodes — to come to the streamer on Nov. 30, 2023. After the explosive part 1 finale, we cannot wait to see where the storylines go next!

Going into Virgin River season 5, we had several questions that needed answers. Does Preacher end up killing Vince after hitting him over the head in the season 4 finale, and who is the real father of Charmaine’s twins? She reveals in season 4 that Jack is not actually her baby daddy, which sends shockwaves through Jack and Mel, and in season 5, the whole town.

By the end of the 10 new episodes of Virgin River season 5, we finally discover who the father of Charmaine’s boys is. And it’s pretty unexpected! If you watched the scene already and are super confused, don’t worry — we’ve got you.

WARNING: Major spoilers for Virgin River season 5 below.

As it’s revealed in Virgin River season 5, Calvin is not actually dead after all, and he’s the father of Charmaine’s twins. Earlier on in the season, Charmaine admits to Jack that the person who fathered her kids is just someone she had a one-time thing with, and not someone she could see being a good dad. That statement had us curious, but we never imagined it would be Calvin!

Don’t remember who Calvin even is? That’s okay! There are so many characters to keep up with on this show. So let’s break it down.

Calvin is Brady’s former boss at the lumber yard, and he’s seemingly the one in charge of the drug trade — until his apparent death. By all accounts, he’s a bad guy. Calvin is the one who originally brings Brady into the business after Brady decides to quit working at Jack’s. Calvin and Jack have a pretty big rift in the earlier seasons, and at one point he even poisons the food at his bar.

Calvin is played by actor David Cubitt, who is best known for shows like Medium, Ray Donovan, and Siren. He’s also appeared in episodes of Nancy Drew, The Good Doctor, So Help Me Todd, and other popular shows.

Calvin seemingly dies in Virgin River season 4 after his boat blows up — but they never show a body. It’s revealed in the new season that he’s fully alive and he wants to be involved in his sons’ lives. This will no doubt spell trouble for Charmaine who most likely is wary about Calvin and his intentions.

It’s also revealed that Calvin isn’t actually the head boss of the drug trade; it’s Melissa. So even though Calvin is believed to be dead, the business continues to thrive in season 5. It will be interesting to find out whether or not Calvin will be involved again moving forward — or if he had never stopped working for Melissa.

There’s no doubt Calvin actually being alive will serve as a big plot point moving forward. Fans can look forward to the two additional episodes of Virgin River season 5 this November, and we come bearing good news because Virgin River season 6 is also in the works!
