The biographical film is based on the true story of Private First Class Desmond T. Doss and the documentary The Conscientious Objector, which came out in 2004. The production tells us the story of the real-life man who refused to carry a weapon into a fight in World War II based on his religious beliefs as a Seventh-day Adventist. He was “ostracized by fellow soldiers,” but later was able to earn respect for his selflessness while risking his own life, per the synopsis.
