Wednesday is one of Netflix’s best shows, and there’s just no denying that. In just its first week on the streamer, it managed to garner 341.2 million viewing hours, taking the crown of most hours viewed in a week for an English-language Netflix series from Stranger Things season 4. Then, by the end of its first month on the streamer, Wednesday became the second most-watched English-language Netflix series of all time. As of September 2023, the fantasy series is the most-watched English-language Netflix series of all time with a total of 1,718,800,000 hours viewed.

The fantasy series was a massive hit, so a season 2 renewal was pretty much guaranteed. However, Netflix didn’t announce that a Wednesday season 2 would be happening until early January 2023. Now everyone’s wondering when the second season will come out. Unfortunately, it’s still too early in the filmmaking process, so there’s no news on a release date.

There isn’t much information out about Wednesday season 2 altogether, but we have an idea of who could return and who won’t. Obviously, we can expect the amazingly talented Jenna Ortega to return as the titular character, Wednesday Addams. The show’s co-creator Miles Millar also mentioned in a past interview that he would like the second season to feature more Addams family. So, we can probably expect Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams) to return as well.

The rest of the cast expected to return is Emma Myers (Enid), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Galpin), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), Joy Sunday (Bianca), Georgie Farmer (Ajax), Naomi J. Ogawa (Yoko), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), and Moosa Mostafa (Eugene). It’s unclear if Percy Hynes White (Xavier) will be returning because there’s a rumor going around that he’s been dropped from the show. But who probably won’t be back for season 2? Find out below!

Spoilers ahead from Wednesday season 1.

Is Rowan in Wednesday season 2?

Nope. Rowan was one of the first character deaths of the first season. He died at the hands of the Hyde. Rowan was driven crazy by his telekinetic abilities and became convinced that Wednesday would be the destruction of Nevermore Academy. So, he tries to kill her with his powers, but the Hyde monster appears and attacks him, ultimately killing him. Later, Rowan appears to be alive, but it is really Principal Weems using her shapeshifting powers to pose as him. She did this to cover up his death and protect Nevermore Academy from scandal.

Is Mayor Walker in Wednesday season 2?

Mayor Walker will not be in the second season because he also met his demise in the first season. After learning the true identity of Marilyn Thornhill/Laurel Gates, he heads to the Weathervane cafe to tell the sheriff about what he found. But before he can step foot into the cafe, he gets run over by a mystery person. This person was most likely Marilyn/Laurel. Although Mayor Walker survives, he gets murdered when his life support is unplugged at the hospital. Once again, this was most likely Marilyn/Laurel. There’s no chance of Mayor Walker coming back because there was a funeral for him in the first season.

Is Dr. Valerie Kinbott in Wednesday season 2?

Dr. Kinbott might’ve been a thorn in Wednesday’s side throughout the entire first season, but she didn’t deserve to meet the fate that she did. Dr. Kinbott had discovered that Tyler was being manipulated and came close to finding out the truth, but was brutally murdered by the Hyde/Tyler before she could do so. Marilyn/Laurel, the manipulator, ordered Tyler to kill Dr. Kinbott once she realized she knew too much. So, no, Dr. Kinbott will not be in the second season.

Is Principal Weems in Wednesday season 2?

The character death that hit many people the hardest was Principal Weems. All she wanted to do was protect her students and Nevermore Academy from any harm or scandal, but Marilyn/Laurel murdered her. After shapeshifting into Tyler, she listens as Marilyn/Laurel explains her murderous agenda to Wednesday. Once the conversation ends, Principal Weems shapeshifts back to herself and speaks with Marilyn/Laurel. But then Marilyn/Laurel runs up to Principal Weems and stabs her with a needle full of Nightshade Poison. Principal Weems falls to the ground and starts foaming at the mouth before seemingly taking her last breath.

We had hoped she survived somehow since we never saw her body or funeral. But according to Miles Millar, Principal Weems is really dead. In an interview with Netflix, Millar said, “Hopefully Weems’ death at the end of the season will take people by surprise and they’ll be as moved as Wednesday is by her loss.” So, Principal Weems will definitely not be back for the second season.

Is Marilyn Thornhill in Wednesday season 2?

At the beginning of the first season, Marilyn Thornhill appears as the seemingly sweet botany teacher at Nevermore Academy, but it’s later revealed that she’s actually the mastermind behind all the murders in the town of Jericho. Her real name is Laurel Gates, the daughter of the Gates family (a family who hated outcasts) who had supposedly died at sea. However, Laurel had faked her own death, changed her identity to Marilyn Thornhill, and returned to the town to enact her revenge plan of getting rid of all outcasts and the Addams family.

At the end of the first season, Marilyn/Laurel’s fate is unknown. After Eugene releases his bees and they begin swarming Marilyn/Laurel, Wednesday walks up to Marilyn/Laurel and stomps her unconscious. We don’t see Marilyn/Laurel again in the season.

Our guess is that after she’s knocked unconscious, Wednesday takes her to the authorities or leaves her there for the authorities to take her in. In other words, Marilyn/Laurel will probably not return as the antagonist in the upcoming Wednesday season 2 because she was taken down by Wednesday in the first season.

Is Goody Addams in Wednesday season 2?

Goody Addams is Wednesday’s deceased ancestor from the 1600s who appears in her visions to help her and give her crucial information about her future. In the final episode of the first season, Goody Addams appears one last time to heal a critically wounded Wednesday, but unfortunately, she vanishes forever by doing this. This means Goody will most likely not be back for the second season.

Wednesday season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
