Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour and Miss Americana
Between May and November 2018, Taylor Swift embarked on her Reputation Stadium Tour in support of her 2017 album reputation. The concert was filmed in Arlington, Texas and released as a 2 hour and 5 minute concert special on Netflix on Dec. 31, 2018. In the special, she performs most of her biggest hits, as well as cuts from the titular album, such as “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Delicate,” “Gorgeous,” and “Getaway Car.”
In January 2020, Swift partnered with Netflix to release her documentary Miss Americana, which chronicled her life and career during a tricky period that inspired her defiant but reflective reputation album. Lana Wilson directed that documentary that sees Swift through her stadium tour and creation of the Lover album, also uncovering the superstar’s personal feelings about her politics, celebrity, sexual assault trial, eating disorder, and more.
Ariana Grande: Excuse Me, I Love You
On Dec. 21, 2020, Netflix released the concert film/documentary Excuse Me, I Love You, which gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour as well performances from the tour. The concert special features some of Grande’s most recent hits like “No Tears Left to Cry,” “God Is a Woman,” “Breathin,” “Thank U, Next, “7 Rings,” and “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” in addition to more of the Grammy winner’s popular songs.
Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé
In April 2019, Beyoncé released her critically acclaimed and wildly successful film Homecoming on Netflix. The concert film tracks the superstar’s headlining performance at 2018’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a performance that pushed the musical festival forward. The special features Beyoncé performing hits from her self-titled album, Lemonade, her other eras, and covers and won the Grammy for Best Music Film. Homecoming is a must-watch and must-listen!
Shawn Mendes: In Wonder and Live in Concert
After the release of his 2018 self-titled and subsequent 2019 tour that took him around the world in over 100 shows, Shawn Mendes was at the height of his career as a young pop-rock star. His 2020 Netflix documentary Shawn Mendes: In Wonder centered on his rise to fame and life on tour, battle with anxiety, and creation of his album Wonder. The same year, Netflix released a full concert special from Mendes’ hometown of Toronto and features a performance with Camila Cabello.
Lady Gaga: Five Foot Two
Following the release of her 2016 album Joanne and performance at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show, Lady Gaga released documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two on Netflix. The title refers the Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter and actress’ height. In the film, Little Monsters join Gaga in an unfiltered look at a year of her life and career as she creates Joanne, prepares for her halftime show, and struggles with chronic pain along the way.
Blackpink: Light Up the Sky
One of the most popular and sought after K-pop groups in the world, Blackpink told the story of their hard-fought rise to stardom and crossover success around the world in the 2020 Netflix documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky. It’s an excellent introduction to the girl group, which boasts hits like “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” “Kill This Love,” “How You Like That,” “Ice Cream,” and “Pink Vemon.” Light Up the Sky is without question one of the best music documentaries on Netflix.
Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now
In April 2023, Netflix released the music documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, which centers on the rising Scottish singer-songwriter following hit global hit singles “Somebody You Loved” and “Before You Go.” The documentary gives fans an up close and personal look at Capaldi’s skyrocketing career and its effects on his life as he grapples with his Tourette’s diagnosis and insecurities in the public eye.
