What is a Devil Fruit from One Piece on Netflix?
Devil Fruits are mysterious and rare fruits that are scattered throughout the world of One Piece. If eaten, it permanently grants the eater with superhuman strength and powers in exchange for their ability to swim. If the Devil Fruit user enters the ocean/sea, they will lose the energy to move and eventually drown. So yeah, there’s a catch to having these superhuman abilities. They’re called Devil Fruits because of the deal the person makes with them when they eat them.
How does Monkey D. Luffy get superhuman powers?
In the first episode of the season, a young Luffy finds a chest that belongs to his idol Shanks and opens it. Inside the chest is a purple fruit filled with green stuff inside of it. Luffy eats the entire fruit and later finds out that his body has been transformed into rubber because of his consumption of the fruit. We later learn that the specific Devil Fruit that granted Luffy stretching abilities is the Gum-Gum Fruit. So, to sum it up, Luffy got his special abilities from eating a Devil Fruit.
