Lockwood & Co. is now streaming on Netflix, and you’ve most likely already sped your way through the eight-episode first season. Now you’re probably searching everywhere for any updates on a potential Lockwood & Co. season 2. Fortunately, you landed at the right place because we shared everything there is to know about the show’s future.

Lockwood & Co. is a television series adaptation of the young adult book series of the same name by Jonathan Stroud. It follows three teenage paranormal investigators who operate their own psychic detection agency without adult supervision in London, England. Together, the trio tracks down and battles the deadly spirits plaguing their city.

Former Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, and Ali Hadji-Heshmati play the three ghost hunters. Ivanno Jeremiah, Luke Treadaway, Morven Christie, Jack Bandeira, Ben Crompton, Hayley Konadu, Rhianna Dorris, and Paddy Holland are also in the cast.

So, is a Lockwood & Co. season 2 in the works at Netflix? Here’s what we know.

Will there be a Lockwood & Co. season 2?

On May 12, Variety revealed that Lockwood & Co. had been canceled after just one season. Even though Netflix was reportedly happy with the show, the viewership numbers weren’t what the streamer was hoping for to get a renewal.

You can read the full statement from the show’s production company Complete Fiction at the source. Despite the cancellation, the company will continue working with Netflix as they still have several projects in development.

Typically, Netflix looks at how many people watch a show in its first month on the streamer to help make its decision. If there are high viewing hours in the first month, this betters the chances of the show being renewed. Also, the completion rate is very important. The entire season must be watched from beginning to end. Low completion rates are one of the main reasons why Netflix has been canceling many of its shows.

Production costs also play a part in Netflix’s decision-making process. Since Lockwood & Co. is a special effects-heavy show, high viewing hours were even more important than usual.
