Netflix is adding 12 new movies and shows this week (Aug. 20, 2023)

A new week is here and that means Netflix is adding new movies and shows to its lineup. The number of new things being added is by no means a lot, but there might be one or two things you’re interested in checking out. The new additions include an action-packed mini-series, a new horror film, and a new family comedy.

First up is Who is Erin Carter?. The action series hits Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, and follows a British ex-pat in Spain who gets caught up in a supermarket robbery. When one of the robbers recognizes her as something other than a quiet teacher, her life begins unraveling in her hands. The series stars Evin Ahmad, Sean Teale, Indica Watson, and Susannah Fielding.

Next up is the intriguingly-titled Killer Book Club. It’s coming to Netflix on Friday, Aug. 25, and features eight horror-loving friends who meet weekly to share their love for horror stories. Unfortunately, books are not the only things to be scared of. They find themselves trying to survive a killer clown. Why is it always a clown?! The clown knows a secret they are all keeping and starts killing them one by one.

Killer Book Club and Who is Erin Carter? on Netflix this week

According to the Netflix Media Center, an anonymous writer is the one who is threatening them. They are threatening to publish a horror story about the group on social media and as each chapter is published, one of them will die. Are the writer and the clown the same person? You’ll have to watch to find out.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is also heading to Netflix this week on Friday, Aug. 25. The movie stars Idina Menzel, Jackie Sandler, Adam Sandler, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Jackie Hoffman, and Luis Guzmán. The movie follows Stacey Friedman as she plans her Bat Mitzvah. But her plans start to unravel, and the event may not end up turning out the way she expects.

This week also brings The Big Short and The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On season 2 on Wednesday, Aug. 23, and Ragnorak season 3 on Thursday, Aug. 24.
