Netflix is adding 14 new movies and shows this week (Aug. 13, 2023)

The writer’s and actor’s strikes continue and Netflix continues to release more new movies and shows this week. With just over 100 days passed on the writer’s strike, it’s clear how much Netflix values its creators, but I digress.

This week, the new additions include an HBO series, a new season of a Netflix animated series, and a new animated movie.

First up is seasons 1-5 of Ballers. The HBO series is headed to Netflix on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023. The series stars The Rock, John David Washington, Donovan W. Carter, Troy Garrity, Omar Benson Miller, and Rob Corrdry.

The series centers around a group of football players, their families and friends, and their handlers.

My Dad the Bounty Hunter is back for season 2 on Netflix this week as well. It hits the streaming service on Thursday, Aug. 17. The animated series starts off with everyone returning to their normal lives, but Sean and Lisa’s dad is captured by the villains they thought they had evaded in the first season. So now they both must suit up and go on another intergalactic mission to save their father.

The voices featured in the series include Laz Alonso, Priah Ferguson, Jecobi Swain, Kari Wahlgren, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

A new animated movie is also coming to Netflix this week. Monkey King comes to Netflix on Friday, Aug. 18. The film stars the voices of Stephanie Hsu, BD Wong, Hoon Lee, Jimmy O. Wang, Bowen Yang, and Jo Koy.

The film is inspired by an epic Chinese story and follows a monkey and his fighting Stick (do I need to say more?) as they battle demons, dragons, and even gods. But their biggest adversary might be coming from within. It might just be Monkey’s ego! But he has the help of a girl named Lin who works to try and make him the best version of himself.

This week also brings Ancient Aliens season 5 on Tuesday, Aug. 15, The Upshaws part 4 on Thursday, Aug. 17, and Mask Girl on Friday, Aug. 15.
