Painkiller is a new Netflix original series capturing the attention of people all over the world. The first season was released on Aug. 10, and most people have already made their way through all the episodes. Now they’re wondering if they can expect another installment to drop on Netflix in the future. We’ll tell you everything we know about a potential Painkiller season 2 below.

Painkiller is a drama series and a fictionalized retelling of events. It explores and focuses on the origins and aftermath of America’s opioid epidemic. It’s also based on the book Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier and the New Yorker Magazine article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe.

The amazingly gifted cast is made up of Uzo Aduba, Matthew Broderick, Taylor Kitsch, Dina Shihabi, West Duchovny, John Rothman, Clark Gregg, Jack Mulhern, Sam Anderson, Ana Cruz Kayne, Brian Markinson, Noah Harpster, John Ales, Johnny Sneed, and Tyler Ritter.

Is Painkiller season 2 happening on Netflix?

As of Aug. 10, the drama series has not been renewed for a second season. And sadly, it will most likely not return for an additional installment since it is billed as a limited series. Limited series usually consist of only one season, which tell a complete story. Painkiller season 1 told a complete story, so there wouldn’t be a need for a second season.

However, we’ve seen some Netflix limited series be renewed for more seasons if they fare well. We’ve seen this recently with the renewals of the formerly limited series The Watcher and Monster. This could happen with Painkiller, but we’re not betting on it.

For now, we’ll have to believe the drama series will not come back for a second season. But if things were to change, we’ll let you know right away.
