Painkiller is Netflix’s scripted series touching on the opioid epidemic in the United States. Starring Uzo Aduba, West Duchovny, Taylor Kitsch, Dina Shihabi, Jack Mulhern, and Tyler Ritter, the series explores how opioids impact the lives of “perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers.”

Matthew Broderick is also among the cast of Painkillers. He plays Richard Sackler, the billionaire, businessman,  chairman, and president of Purdue Pharma.

The Netflix series is based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s New Yorker article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain.” The book Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier also inspired the series.

Painkiller drops on Netflix on August 10. But many people are curious about how many episodes will be in the scripted series. Here’s what you need to know about the episodes in Painkiller, including how many there are and the titles of each.

Learn more about the infancy of the opioid crisis and the role Purdue Pharma, who manufactured OxyContin, played in the story.

The limited series isn’t unlike a few other opioid crisis-inspired shows that have come out in recent years, including Hulu’s Dopesick starring Michael Keaton, Will Poulter, and Kaitlyn Dever. HBO’s The Crime of the Century and the Netflix documentary Heroin(e) also cover the opioid epidemic in the United States and the role of Purdue in that crisis.
