Netflix is adding 12 new movies and shows this week (Aug. 6, 2023)

Another new week is here and Netflix continues to not give the writers (or actors) what they want in the strike. But they will be putting out plenty of new movies and shows this week, including a new Gal Gadot movie, a new Netflix Original series, and a docu-series on the history of hip-hop.

First up is Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop. The docu-series hits Netflix on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023. It follows the women in the genre who have made it what it is today as we celebrate 50 years since it all started. It includes artists like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Saweetie, Tierra Whack, and Rah Digga.

This week also brings a new Netflix Original series. Painkiller starring Matthew Broderick, Uzo Aduba, Taylor Kitsch, Clark Gregg, and Dina Shihabi comes out on Thursday, Aug. 10. The series follows the perpetrators, the victims, and the investigator in the opioid epidemic in America.

Heart of Stone and Painkiller coming to Netflix this week

The crime drama shows the very real greed of the people selling as many opioids as possible AKA Purdue Pharma, and the very real struggle of people taking these drugs.

Heart of Stone is also headed to Netflix this week. The Gal Gadot film is coming to Netflix on Friday, Aug. 11. Besides Gal Gadot, the movie stars Jamie Dornan, Matthias Schweighöfer, Archie Madekwe, Sophi Okonedo, and Alia Bhatt. The movie follows an intelligence operative for a shadow agency who is trying to stop a hacker from stealing its most valuable weapon. With Gal Gadot as the star, this is sure to be action-packed.
