Heartstopper season 2: Is Kit Connor actually fluent in French?

Heartstopper is back, and it’s time to start binge-watching all the new episodes! In Heartstopper season 2, Truham Grammar and Higgs take a school trip to Paris, France, where Charlie, Nick, and their friend group explore the beautiful city while also dealing with typical teenage problems.

During the trip, Nick works to build up the courage to come out to other people while Charlie tries to support him in any way he can. Since Nick’s dad lives in Paris, Nick also wants to meet up and introduce him to Charlie. But he doesn’t tell Charlie his plans right away.

While on the bus to Paris, Nick talks with his dad on the phone, but he speaks in French instead of English. This completely surprises his seatmate, Tao Xu. Nick had never mentioned to anyone that he could speak French. This becomes clear when he starts speaking French again while exploring Paris with his classmates, and his classmates are shocked. He explains to them that his dad is French.

Later, Charlie finally finds out this secret of Nick’s when he overhears Nick’s conversation with his dad on the phone. Initially, he’s surprised that Nick can speak French fluently. But he also finds it really attractive. Since Nick speaks French several times throughout the season, you might be wondering if the actor portraying him can actually speak French fluently. Can Kit Connor speak fluent French? Here’s what we know.

Heartstopper season 2: Is Kit Connor actually fluent in French?

It’s unclear if Kit Connor is fluent in French now, but he wasn’t before the filming of the second season. He had to learn the language for his character. If you don’t believe us, check out this interview Kit and his co-star Joe Locke did back in April 2022. It’s at the 7:53 mark.

A fan question asks if Kit could speak some French words. Kit responds by saying he knows “a few.” He then proceeds to say the few French words he knows. So, Kit definitely wasn’t fluent in French prior to filming Heartstopper season 2. However, he might speak French fluently now after using it a lot in the series. But we won’t know unless Kit reveals this information.
