Netflix’s exciting shounen anime Baki Hanma recently returned with its highly-anticipated second season this past July. The first part of Baki Hanma season 2 covered the Pickle saga, while Baki Hanma season 2 part 2 will finally see Baki face off against his greatest foe yet: his father, Yuuichirou Hanma, also known as “The Ogre.”

Based on the long-running and acclaimed martial arts manga series Baki the Grappler, written and illustrated by Keisuke Itagak, Netflix’s Baki and Baki Hanma serve as standalone follow-ups to the original TV Tokyo series and OVA. Baki was the first iteration produced by Netflix, running from 2018 to 2020 and covering arcs like the “Most Evil Death Row Convicts” and the “Great Ratai Tournament.”

Baki Hanma first premiered in September 2021 and started with the “Combat Shadow Fighting” saga. Baki Hanma season 2 covers the “Pickle Wars” and “Father vs. Son” arcs.

The first half of the season has already been released, but keep reading to learn everything you need to know about Baki Hanma season 2 part 2, including when it’s being released and more!

What happened at the end of Baki Hanma season 2 part 1?

Spoilers ahead for the “Pickle War” arc and ending of Baki Hanma season 2 part 1

Baki and Pickle—a prehistoric man from the Jurassic era discovered “pickled” in a saline rock formation—finally have their fight at the end of season 2 part 1. Baki gives it his all but grows cocky and tries beating Pickle using stamina alone, culminating in his defeat at Pickle’s hand.

However, it is agreed that Baki is the superior fighter despite his loss. Ultimately, a referendum is held to decide on Pickle’s fate. Should he be sent back into stasis or allowed to live freely in Tokyo? The majority rules in favor of putting him back into the rock formation where they found him, but before that can happen, Pickle escapes and disappears somewhere in the city.

Will there be a third season of Baki Hanma on Netflix?

Netflix has not released information on Baki Hanma‘s future yet. We don’t know if there will be another season or if this will be the last. It’s also possible Netflix will produce a separate series within the same continuity, similar to what they did with Baki and then Baki Hanma, both standalone sequels to the original Baki the Grappler anime.

The good news is that the source material, Baki the Grappler, is ongoing, with its latest storyline, “Baki-Dou,” set to wrap up this summer before the manga takes a hiatus. It’s hard to say what Netflix will adapt next because the anime doesn’t match up perfectly to the manga’s chronology, but the series as a whole remains tremendously popular so it’s hard to imagine Netflix outright canceling the show.
