Charlie and Nick are back in Heartstopper season 2, and we can’t wait to see how they navigate their new relationship. If you were unaware, the popular Netflix teen show is adapted from Alice Oseman’s bestselling Heartstopper graphic novel series. The first season covered Volumes 1 and 2, but which book or books is the highly anticipated second season based on? Find out right below.

In Heartstopper season 2, Truham Grammar and Higgs take some of its students on a school trip to Paris during summer break. There, Nick tries to build the courage to come out publicly to everyone while Charlie is his emotional support. Their friends also deal with their complicated love lives. Elle and Tao try to figure out if they want to take things to the next level and become boyfriend and girlfriend. Meanwhile, Tara and Darcy face their first big relationship hurdle while Isaac discovers something new about himself.

Joe Locke and Kit Connor reprise their roles as Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. William Gao (Tao), Yasmin Finney (Elle), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), and many others also return.

Which Heartstopper book is Heartstopper season 2 based on?

Unlike the first season, Heartstopper season 2 is only based on one Heartstopper book. It’s based on Heartstopper Volume 3, which is the third book in Oseman’s Heartstopper series. However, Oseman spoke with Netflix and said that there’s also new material added in the second season that wasn’t in the book.

Here’s the book synopsis for Volume 3 via Alice Oseman’s official website:

"Charlie didn’t think Nick could ever like him back, but now they’re officially boyfriends. Nick’s even found the courage to come out to his mum.But coming out isn’t just something that happens once – there’s Nick’s older brother, and a school trip to Paris, not to mention all the other friends and family – and life can be hard, even with someone who loves you by your side. As their feelings get more serious, Charlie and Nick will need each other more than ever before."

If you would like to purchase Volume 3, you can do so on Amazon. It can be purchased as a paperback, hardcover, or Kindle eBook at different prices.
