Sweet Magnolias season 3 episode 3 recap

Episode 3 is about as close to a bottle episode of Sweet Magnolias as we’ve probably seen. While there are some developments to the first episodes’ key plotlines the writers have a bit of fun with shaking things up with the arrival of the Forage Festival.

This annual festival sends the townspeople of Serenity racing across the community to find items on a scavenger hunt checklist with the goal being to bring the town together, while also celebrating its history.

Our teams for the festival end up being a mix of unexpected pairings which is part of the fun as we get to see some characters interact who don’t always share the screen much together. Our teams for the event were:

• Maddie, Cal, and Paula
• Helen, Ryan, and Ty
• Dana Sue, Ronnie, and Kyle
• Noreen, Isaac, and Annie

As the hunt unfolds, the four teams have some fun together and hijinks, of course, ensue as everyone’s competitive side comes out. At the end of the day, Noreen, Isaac, and Annie manage to get enough points to win but their win is overshadowed by the shocking revelation that comes after the winner is announced when Mayor Trent Lewis announces his immediate retirement.

Odds and Ends From the Episode

• While the rest of the town is enjoying the festival, Kathy approaches Erik to make him an offer to come to work for her at a competing restaurant in town called Z’s.
• Speaking of Kathy, sparks continue to fly with Bill.
• Prior to the scavenger hunt, we learn that Dana Sue and Ronnie are currently working on homework with Pastor June designed to help strengthen their relationship.
