Netflix has gotten very serious about ushering out billions of dollars in Korean content. We’ve already seen several new K-Dramas debut on the platform this year, and there are many more to come, one of them a tense cam girl thriller with a twist called Mask Girl, arriving this August.

Among the many new releases we’ve seen this year are Love to Hate You, Black Knight, Celebrity, and Crash Course in Romance, but this new series should appeal to anyone who likes darker shows with techno-thriller elements.

Mask Girl is an upcoming South Korean series Naver Webtoon of the same name. It follows an ordinary woman struggling with her appearance who works as an internet live streamer at night and finds herself caught up in an incident.

According to a teaser poster shared online, Mask Girl is coming to Netflix on Friday, August 18, 2023. The teaser also confirms the date, which you can check out below. Add the series to your watchlist here to get a reminder when the show debuts.

Reflections of You star Ko Hyun-jung stars as the lead character Kim Momi, and she’s joined by Ahn Jae-hong from Be Melodramatic and Time to Hunt. The series also stars The Glory actress Yeom Hye-ram and actress/singer Nana.

What is Mask Girl about?

As a child, all Kim Momi wanted was to become a celebrity, but she finds herself ugly and struggles with intense insecurities. Now an adult, Momi is just an ordinary working woman during the day who masquerades behind a mask on the internet as a live streamer at night. A sudden, unforeseen incident threatens to change everything.

Elsewhere, a woman named Kim Kyung-ja realizes her son is missing, and his disappearance is linked to this “Mask Girl. She tries hunting her down, but Momi has seemingly vanished into thin air.

"The story follows Kim Momi, an ordinary working woman with strong insecurity about her appearance who gets caught up in a variety of mishaps while working as a mask-wearing internet BJ. With her ugly appearance and perfect body, “Momi” enjoys people’s attention by living as an adult BJ Mask Girl during the night. We follow the chronology of “Momi,” who comes to live a completely different life after an unforeseen incident."
