We have some big news about Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 to share with fans of the hit K-Drama.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo turned out to be one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2022, making it one of the most successful Korean TV exports of all time. The series is technically a Netflix original series, but it’s only distributed by Netflix. The show is an ENA series produced by ASTORY.
The wholesome show follows 27-year-old Woo Young Woo (Park Eun-bin), a recent law graduate who navigates life on the autism spectrum and breaks down misconceptions of autistic people lacking “social skills” and “emotional intelligence.”
If you’ve already seen the 16 episodes, we’re sure you’re hooked and hungry for more. Well, now fans of the popular weekly K-drama can rejoice as the series will be returning for a second season, though it seems we still have a bit of a wait until its return.
We’ll share more updates about Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 as we find out. The latest update was published on July 18, 2023.
Is Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 happening?
Yes! Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 is in the works, according to NME. We don’t know many details about the new season right now, but it’s confirmed to be in the works, which means it will likely be available to stream on Netflix after it airs in South Korea.
Back in 2022, due to the success of the first season, the CEO of the network ASTORY (the company behind the smash-hit Korean drama), Lee Sang-baek, revealed that there are plans for a second season of the addictive drama, but we will have to wait until 2024 to see it.
"“Thanks to the support of many people, we will produce season two of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The goal is to air season two in 2024.”"
However, according to Digital Spy, despite the positive update from the network CEO, the status of the show still isn’t official as the final decision lies with ENA, the channel that broadcasts the adventures of Woo Young Woo in South Korea. Nevertheless, if it does happen, then a 2024 release date looks very feasible.
Moon Ji-won is writing the script for Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2
NME cited a Dispatch report that confirmed Moon Ji-won, the writer and creator of the series, is writing Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2.
Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to happen for a while. The report mentioned that Moon Ji-won will not be writing the season immediately as they’re working on a new feature film in 2023.
Here’s what ASTORY mentioned about season 2, via Soompi:
"“Because Moon Ji Won is currently busy with the preparations for her film, she will not be able to write the script right away. We think she will be able to start preparing the script in earnest after she wraps up her film at the beginning of next year.”"
So, it looks like the scripts for season 2 will not be finished until 2024.
Is Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 filming?
Without a script, Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 will not start production anytime soon. The report from Soompi also mentioned that there are no production plans in place right now.
Obviously, if the scripts aren’t ready until 2024, production won’t begin until the scripts are finished, which could be later in 2024 or even 2025.
Has Netflix announced the Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 release date?
Unfortunately, we’re going to be waiting quite a while for Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 to be released on Netflix. The scripts for season 2 haven’t been written, and the season has not been filmed and we’re halfway through 2023. That’s not looking good for a 2024 release date.
Ideally, we’d see production start at the beginning of 2024. Then, there’d be a chance we could see the new season by the end of the year. It’s unclear if that’s possible.
For now, we’re going to be a little bit cautious with our release prediction. At the earliest, we’ll probably see Extraordinary Attorney Woo season 2 in the spring of 2025.
We’ll let you know more about the series as soon as we find out more information.
We’re also expecting that the new season will be released weekly on Netflix as it airs in South Korea, just like season 1.
Release Prediction: Spring 2025
