Let the adventures continue! Outer Banks season 4 is officially happening at Netflix, so we get to see the Pogues go on yet another treasure hunt. Sadly, we’re a long way off from its release, but in the meantime, we’ve been keeping ourselves busy by staying up to date on everything involving the fourth season and the cast’s other projects.

As of July 12, production on Outer Banks season 4 is still in progress, with everything rumored to wrap up on Dec. 15, 2023. Once the cameras stop rolling, the new episodes should then immediately enter post-production, where they will be edited to perfection. We don’t have a release date just yet, but the new season is expected to drop sometime in 2024. Fingers crossed!

Netflix hasn’t released an official cast list for the fourth season either, but all of our favorite Pogues will most likely return. This means we’ll see Chase Stokes (John B), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara Carrera), Jonathan Daviss (Pope Heyward), Rudy Pankow (JJ Maybank), and Carlacia Grant (Cleo). Drew Starkey (Rafe Cameron) and Austin North (Topper Thornton) are also likely to return.

As we get further into the filmmaking process, we can probably expect new cast members to be announced as well. But who will not be returning for Outer Banks season 4? Here’s what we know.

Is Ward Cameron in Outer Banks season 4?

No. Charles Esten, who plays Ward Cameron, will not be returning for the fourth season because his character dies in the third season. Ward had escaped death several times in the teen series, but he reaches his demise in the season 3 finale. While searching for the gold in South America, Carlos Singh’s right-hand man, Ryan, tries to stop Ward, Big John, and the Pogues by holding them at gunpoint. As Ryan aims his gun at Sarah, Ward sacrifices himself and lunges at Ryan, taking multiple shots to the torso area. He and Ryan fall off a cliff and both die.

Is Big John in Outer Banks season 4?

The character death that was the saddest this season had to be Big John’s in the season 3 finale. In season 3, John B finds out his dad is alive and they have a heartwarming reunion. Although their relationship is pretty much rocky throughout the entire season, they do eventually bond and find common ground in their love for adventure and treasure hunting.

Sadly, Big John is shot by Carlos Singh and becomes critically wounded before he, John B, and Sarah can reach the cave where the gold is. But although he’s injured, he continues to push forward. In the end, the Pogues manage to drag a gravely injured Big John onto a boat and try to keep him awake as they get to safety. But Big John succumbs to his wounds and dies. Since Big John dies in the third season, he definitely won’t be back for the fourth season.

Is Carlos Singh in Outer Banks season 4?

The last character who definitely won’t be in the fourth season is Carlos Singh because he dies in the third season. After John B and Sarah find the gold in the cave, Carlos corners and holds them at gunpoint. Then, Big John emerges from his hiding spot and throws an explosive at the cave’s entrance, causing the entire cave to collapse. As John B, Sarah, and Big John barely escape from the cave, Carlos stays behind to try to stop the explosion. But he’s not quick enough, and the cave blows up with him inside it.
