Despite starring the award-nominated actor Adam Driver and boasting a sizable $45 million budget, Sony’s sci-fi action thriller film 65 didn’t make a big splash at the box office when it was released in March 2023. Critic and audience reviews were also very low or mixed for the film. However, now 65 is streaming on Netflix and has the chance to be exposed to a new audience.

Many people and families who didn’t get the chance to see 65 in theaters can now relax and enjoy the movie at home. Driver plays a pilot named Mills who crash lands on Earth—65 million years ago, meaning he has to try and survive the prehistoric creatures and find his way back home.

65 age rating and parents guide

The MPAA rated this 2023 sci-fi thriller movie PG-13 for “intense sci-fi action and peril, and brief bloody images.” Some scenes featured in the movie might be too mature for children under the age of 13, meaning parents/guardians are advised to screen the movie first or watch it alongside your kids to ensure they don’t get too frightened.

Common Sense Media reports that the movie does have some gory moments that might be too much for younger kids, especially if they love dinosaurs as 65 features some moments of dinosaur violence and you’ll see several corpses throughout the film. Characters are stabbed, and there are multiple explosions. The cursing isn’t too over the top, and there isn’t any sex or nudity in the film.

Overall, the intense violence is the primary reason for 65‘s PG-13 rating, and there is at least one moment in the movie where a character considers suicide. You should keep all of this in mind before choosing 65 to watch with your family.

If you think 65 might be just a little bit too mature for your kids, there are similar films that are more family-oriented on Netflix, like the PG-rated Chupa and the G-rated classic A Land Before Time.
