In a surprise move, Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix stroke a licensing deal where the streaming giant would receive some former HBO shows. One of the HBO original series a part of the deal has already made its way to Netflix, with several more slated to drop on the streamer at a later date.
We first learned of this deal back in June 2023 when the online news site, Deadline, was the first to report about it. At that time, Warner Bros. Discovery was in talks to license several HBO shows to Netflix, but nothing was set in stone yet. It was said to be a financial decision on WBD’s part, with the agreement being non-exclusive. This meant that the HBO shows loaned to Netflix would still be available on Max, formerly HBO Max.
Now, in July 2023, it’s been reported that the deal has been signed and is official. On July 3, Netflix received its first HBO original series included in the deal, Insecure. If you’re wondering what other HBO shows are confirmed to be coming to Netflix in the future, make sure to continue reading because we shared them below.
Which HBO shows are coming to Netflix?
All five seasons of the popular comedy-drama series Insecure arrived on Netflix on July 3, 2023. According to What’s on Netflix, the streamer will carry this show for only three years since that’s how long licensing deal was for. But keep in mind that neither Netflix nor Warner Bros. Discovery has come out and said how long the comedy-drama will be available on the streaming platform. So, Insecure seasons 1-5 could remain on Netflix for longer than three years. We’ll let you know when the show departs the streamer.
Here are the titles of the other HBO shows confirmed to be coming to Netflix soon:
- Band of Brothers (2001)
- The Pacific (2010)
- Six Feet Under (2001-2005)
- Ballers (2015-2019)
Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet revealed when these licensed shows will be coming to the streaming platform. But of course, we’ll make sure to share their release dates once they’re announced.
The Emmy Award-winning fantasy series True Blood will also be available to stream on Netflix internationally. Sorry, Netflix US subscribers!
There might be more HBO shows we did not list coming to Netflix US in the future because of the new deal. If this is to be the case, you can definitely count on us to share the names of each and every one that is announced.
