Fans of the MonsterVerse should prepare for an all-new series set in the popular franchise that has spawned multiple live-action movies like Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island. The anime is aptly titled Skull Island and will follow a group of shipwrecked explorers that end up on the mysterious island, home to King Kong and plenty of other terrifying creatures.

Featuring eight episodes, Skull Island is the first show in the MonsterVerse, though another one for Apple TV+ is currently in the works. The anime stars a talented voice cast with actors like Mae Whitman, Darren Barnet, Betty Gilpin, and more!

But not all anime is suitable for children and family viewing, is Skull Island appropriate to watch with the whole family? Keep reading to learn more about the show’s age rating and parent’s guide.

Skull Island age rating and parent’s guide

Skull Island is rated TV-14, which means content in the anime might not be suitable for viewers under the age of 14. Parents are strongly cautioned. Even though Skull Island is an animated show, it might be a little too scary for young kids.

Netflix gave the anime a TV-14 rating for fear, gore, language, and violence. Since the series takes place on an island overridden with monsters, you can expect to see a lot of characters getting stalked, chased, and attacked by the various creatures on Skull Island, as well as some of the monsters fighting each other.

If you and your family have watched the newer live-action MonsterVerse movies like the newer Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Kong, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, then the anime will probably be okay to watch.
