It has been several years since we got new episodes of the techno-thriller series Black Mirror, but the series is finally back! Creator and writer Charlie Brooker warned viewers that this season would push the boundaries of what fans can expect from the show, and he’s right. Black Mirror season 6 doesn’t even feel like Black Mirror at times.

There aren’t as many science fiction elements in these five episodes, making it feel more like a horror anthology series than the paranoia-inducing show we’ve come to know and love. You’ll have to decide whether that’s a good or bad thing by checking out the new season!

5. Mazey Day

Clara Rugaard and Zazie Beetz star in this polarizing Black Mirror installment that follows a photographer on her last job: getting a photo of reclusive pop star Mazey Day in exchange for a big payout.

“Mazey Day” aims to explore the complicated relationship between celebrities and paparazzi, but the final supernatural twist comes so out of left field that it makes the episode feel disjointed and random. This is the one episode of Black Mirror season 6 that could have afforded to be longer to explore its premise further and maybe make the ending twist work better.
