A new Sailor Moon movie is here! Usagi and her friends are back in Sailor Moon Cosmos, a two-part action fantasy film broken into two parts. The first part was released on June 9, 2023, and part two is coming on June 30, 2023.

In Sailor Moon Cosmos, Usagi must confront Sailor Galaxia, the leader of Shadow Galactica, after they steal the Sailor Guardian’s crystals.

The film is based on the Stars arc in the popular manga by Naoko Takeuchi, and it functions as the final season of the Sailor Moon Crystal series. It is a direct sequel to the 2021 anime film Sailor Moon Eternal, which is currently streaming on Netflix. Given that Netflix has tons of anime, including Sailor Moon Eternal, fans outside of Japan are probably wondering when and where they can watch the latest entry into this beloved franchise.

Will Sailor Moon Cosmos be on Netflix in the US?

Right now, Sailor Moon Cosmos does not have a release date outside of Japan, and it doesn’t have a streamer attached. That’s not uncommon. New anime movies and shows typically begin with a Japanese release before being widely distributed. Nowadays, it doesn’t take nearly as long as it used to for audiences outside of Japan t get access, especially with sites like Crunchyroll around.

Netflix licenses a significant amount of anime. The recent Black Clover film, Sword of the Wizard King, received a simultaneous release in Japan and on Netflix, but that doesn’t appear to be the case for Sailor Moon Cosmos.

Once both parts of the movie have debuted, we should get an update on where and when the film will be released outside Japan. There is a good chance Netflix will get the movie since they are currently streaming the 2021 film Sailor Moon: Eternal and the Sailor Moon Crystal series.
