Both Schumer and Lawrence have two of the best senses of humor in Hollywood, and pairing them together is a match made in award show banter heaven. The pair haven’t yet officially worked together, though they teased years ago that they were working on a movie together.

Since that movie hasn’t yet come to fruition, some fans might be wondering whether Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are still friends these days, especially after J.Law’s hilarious cameo in promotional video for Schumer’s Netflix special Emergency Contact.

Yes, Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are still friends, and that’s exactly why The Hunger Games star appeared in the clip of Schumer searching for an emergency contact. The Oscar winner is the first famous friend Schumer calls, and although Lawrence shuts her down and insists that they aren’t friends, it appears to be a funny bit between the two.

In an August 2022 profile of Schumer in The New Yorker, Lawrence spoke to the “relatability” of the topics Schumer doesn’t shy away from in her comedy that has lent to her successful career. Lawrence seemed to be one of the friends who knew about Schumer’s liposuction surgery and was surprised to see the star speaking about it publicly and, of course, in a relatable way.

Their friendship has become less public in recent years, though Lawrence attended Schumer’s 2018 wedding to Chris Fisher, and Schumer attended Lawrence’s 2019 wedding to Cooke Maroney. They both became mothers around the same time, as each star welcome their sons in 2019 (Schumer) and 2022 (Lawrence). No doubt they are already buddies!

What happened to Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence’s movie?

Back in 2016, Schumer and Lawrence announced they had finished writing a comedy film together, with the Oscar winner stating that they hoped to “do that pretty soon.” The previous August, Lawrence teased that she and Schumer would play sisters in the movie. The comedian would be a well-adjusted flight attendant, while the Oscar winner would be a “mess.”

Well, it’s June 2023 as of this writing, and the movie has not been released. In the meantime, both stars have kept busy with their respective work, but there haven’t been updates on the status of the movie since 2018. Lawrence revealed on Watch What Happens Live that they had a table read and were looking for a director as well as a release date. It doesn’t seem like they found either just yet. Fingers crossed! Maybe someday it could even be on Netflix.
