Even though adaptations of Stephen King’s works can be a hit or a miss, it doesn’t stop horror fans from getting excited when a new one is released. As an avid fan of King’s work, I’m looking forward to seeing The Boogeyman, released in theaters on June 2, 2023.

The Boogeyman is based on the 1973 short story from King’s Night Shift collection. It stars a talented cast of actors, including Yellowjackets breakout Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, and David Dastmalchian.

Thatcher plays teenage Sophie Harper, who is grieving the loss of her mother alongside her sister Sawyer (Blair). Their father, Will (Messina), is a therapist, but he’s too lost in his own grief to help his children. When he starts working with a new patient at their house, they bring in a malevolent entity that starts feeding on the family’s suffering.

Will The Boogeyman be on Netflix?

Unfortunately, since 20th Century Studios is distributing The Boogeyman, it’s unlikely to come to Netflix. But on the plus side, Netflix does have a few Stephen King adaptations of its own available to watch, including Gerald’s Game, 1922, In the Tall Grass, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, and The Mist.

Where to watch The Boogeyman

The latest Stephen King adaptation is getting an exclusive theatrical run to start with, so you won’t be able to watch the new horror film at home anytime soon. You’ll have to wait at least a couple of months before The Boogeyman is released to own via digital retailers (or maybe physical media, but 20th Century Studios hasn’t been releasing as many films on DVD lately).

For now, the only way you can see this movie is to go to your local theater. You can use a site like Fandango to find out when and where The Boogeyman is playing near you.

Once the movie does make its way to streaming, it’s likely we will see it on Hulu. Disney previously had a deal with Warner Bros. to share movies with HBO Max (now Max), but that deal expired at the end of 2022.
