Manifest season 4 episode 15 recap: Throttle
The river full of blood has New York and the whole world all bent out of shape about the passengers and the “threat” the pose to humanity. It’s putting added pressure on the detention center as well as the safe house still full of the dozen missing passengers, who Amuta is now in charge of after Fiona’s death. Two passengers attempt to persuade Amuta into letting them abandon the safe house. He doesn’t budge yet.
Inside the detention center, Ben pleads with Zimmer about Angelina’s presence inflicting danger on the passengers with her powers, but Zummer isn’t buying what he’s selling. He wants her to use Saanvi’s serum on Angelina to mute her powers. Again, Zimmer can’t be talked into anything. But we do find out she made a deal with Angelina to bring the missing passengers to the detention center. Zimmer is the WORST.
When Michaela’s dad visits her at the detention center, he’s visibly worse for the wear. He delivers a note from Olive, who’s staying with a friend outside of the city with Cal and Eden for safety. But when it’s time for Steven to leave, he has a rather serious health scare and collapses. The guards won’t let Michaela see her father, forcing her to use a small Calling of a stream as a means to leave the detention center with Zimmer’s permission.
Amuta arrives at the detention center and demands to see Daly. When he talks with Ben and says Daly came by the safe house earlier that morning, Ben breaks the news that Daly died the day before, that Angelina projected Daly to him under the guise of luring him to the detention center. It’s in that moment that Ben realizes that Zimmer is taking advantage of Angelina’s powers. Meanwhile, in attempting to find the safe house’s location, Angelina causes an earthquake tremor.
Ben convinces Zimmer to let him speak directly to the press outside the detention center, and when he does, he delivers a speech about the passengers not being the threat they’re being made out to be. He slides the phrase “chicken coop” in his speech, which is Amuta’s code word for the safe house passengers. Someone throws a rock at Ben’s head, and thus ends his State of the Passengers address with the press. Still, the safe word prevents Registry guards from finding the passengers at the safe house.
Drea meets Michaela and Jared with a bottle of alcohol (the drinkable kind, not the medical kind), using it as a disinfectant to remove the tracker from Mick’s arm. While Drea drives the tracker around as to not cause alarm with the Registry, Michaela and Jared visit her dad at the hospital. It’s bad. He can’t speak and needs constant care, which Mick can’t provide as a locked-up 828 passenger. She plots a permanent escape from the detention center. Jared agrees to help her follow her Calling to where it takes her and her dad, and they kiss. Drea walks up on them, and it’s an awkward situation. Yikes…
Eagan catches Jordan stealthily passing a note to TJ (our first TJ appearance of part 2!), and immediately makes it his business. The note informs of Angelina killing both Fiona and Daly, and Eagan’s hungry to get revenge on her for his own personal reasons. They search for Angelina, but they don’t find her just yet. Zimmer instructs Saanvi to remove the sapphire from Angelina, but the sapphire dissolved into her veins.
Impulsively, Ben injects the serum into Angelina despite Saanvi’s protests. Angelina’s scream causes a massive earthquake, inflicting the passengers with pain in their head and rashes on their arms. Michaela nearly drives into a post when she passes out while driving. Eagan steals Jordan’s badge and escapes with Angelina. They surrender to the safe house passengers, who have relocated to a sketchy abandoned building.
Now that Saanvi realizes the Callings are gone, Ben realizes the gravity of his decision. TJ finds Ben and Saanvi in the lab and delivers a message from Olive about the World card. It shows a red river, which Saanvi tested. The results show peyssonnelia, and she discovers Daly’s blood didn’t change the color of the river — red algae did. A hydrothermic vent in the earth’s crust caused the algae’s takeover, meaning there’s a volcano under New York threatening all of humanity. Ben sums it up: “The world’s ending… and we know how.”
Biggest Revelations:
- Drea texts Jared that they “need to talk.” She seems to be harboring feelings for them in spite of their previous and long-over “no strings” arrangement. When Jared later asks what she needed to talk to him about, she pretends not to remember. She deletes a half-written text she planned to send him, something obviously still going left unsaid.
- Zimmer has Saanvi transferred from the detention center lab. Perhaps she will be moved to Gupta’s facility, which has been ominously hinted at in previous episodes.
