Manifest season 4 episode 14 recap: Fata Morgana

After Cal and Olive discover Fiona dead, Olive blames herself for her death since she fell asleep during her watch. Little do they know, neither of them are to blame. But they’ll find that out soon. Meanwhile, the Callings begin at the detention center when Ben sees blood while washing his hands and then Daly staring back at him in the mirror. Clearly, the “witnesses” are already causing all kinds of trouble and setbacks in episode 14.

Michaela and Jared awkwardly agree to forget about their almost kiss, furthering the clunky nature of their ship’s realignment. But it’s no matter, they quickly move on to the matter of Angelina being spotted in Missouri. She’s presumed dead by all, so it’s a real shock. Right after Jared leaves, Zeke drops by to tell her he can’t stay with her, that he feels everything slipping away. He says “Do I know you?” to Mick right before the detention center’s alarm goes off. Huh?

Saanvi gives Polly and the baby their latest checkup, and mom’s on track to deliver on her due date six weeks from now. Also on Dr. Bahl’s docket, Daly’s estranged son Patrick comes by the detention center and she explains the mythological plagues seemingly originating from his father. Saanvi believes that Patrick’s stem cells and bone marrow could be the key to curing the plagues. However, another plague — water to blood — has already begun. Blood enters Daly’s IV, Saanvi’s beaker, and when Polly spills milk, the janitor’s mop hits the ground with blood rather than water.

The revelation of blood in the water instigates a low-key riot at the detention center cafeteria, causing Polly to fall to the ground and have labor pains. While Michaela and a kind janitor tend to Polly, Ben rushes to Saanvi and she fills him in on her serum plan with Daly’s son. Back at the Stone house, Eden shares with Olive and Cal that Olive told her to take the straw out of Fiona the night before. Understandably, they’re confused since Olive was asleep. In the midst of these developments, Jared and Vance track Angelina and presume she’s headed for New York. But before she lands in the eye of the storm, she projects as a Registry guard to spy on Daly’s son. When Saanvi mentions the guard in the room, Ben looks on in confusion.

After Cal and Olive check the camera footage, they watch Eden talking to herself and pulling the straw out of Fiona’s chest. Cal ponders if it could be Angelina because he saw her alive and well in his Calling. Suddenly, they realize that not only is Angelina alive, she also has the Omega Sapphire. Cal projects to Angelina and finds her in her van by the Delaware Water Gap highway exit. He confronts her, learns that the sapphire is in her hand, and shares her location with Jared, who races away to track her down.

Back in the detention center, Patrick talks to Daly, ruthlessly scolding his father that everything’s his fault for flying into the storm. He’s saying all of these harsh things to push him to the edge. But wait, wasn’t Patrick just willing to reconcile with his dad? Yeah, it’s not really Patrick. It’s Angelina projecting onto Daly, forcing the captain to unplug his IV and break out of his room. The real Patrick sees Daly in distress, but Angelina’s projection keeps taunting Daly.

As matters with Daly reach a fever pitch, an armed Jared inches toward Angelina’s van. Although Ben tries to stop the guards from shooting Daly, Angelina’s projection gets the best of Daly and the guards shoot him dead. Angelina’s officially killed the second witness, but Jared arrests her. She’s speaking nonsense about the witnesses and “saving lives” to Jared, who relays her brainwashed claims to Vance, Ben, and Saanvi. Suddenly, they all realize what she did to cause Daly’s death. Ben promises to shut her down for good.

In the final scene, the blood from Daly’s body drips onto the floor and into a drain, leading out into the river. Jared escorts a handcuffed Angelina into the detention center. She and Ben make startling eye contact. The threat is now closer than ever.

Biggest Revelations:

  • During all of this mess, Michaela delivers Polly’s baby, a girl she names Chloe. Michaela also discovers that the janitor, Jordan, is Polly’s boyfriend and Chloe’s father. He got a job as a janitor to remain close to Polly and not miss his daughter’s birth.
  • After delivering Polly’s baby, Zeke comes to Michaela again, but this time they’re in the cave. He’s freezing and doesn’t know who she is. Michaela realizes he’s coming out of the Glow and going back to the cave, which is why he can’t remember anything. He’s going back to “real life.” She shows him the photo of her in his pocket and has him repeat “find her.” It’s their goodbye, but hopefully not their final goodbye.
