Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
It’s safe to say that when Queen Charlotte premiered on Netflix in May 2023, most Bridgerton fans were hoping to have some news on a Bridgerton season 3 release date. We’ve been waiting and waiting (and still are), but any doubts anyone might have had about the prequel evaporated. The limited prequel series definitely scratched the Bridgerton itch and then some.
Queen Charlotte centers on the titular young queen’s rise to power and prominence as she marries King George. What might seem like a usual season of the series surprises as something a little bit darker and more complex. The series doesn’t shy away from diving into King George’s mental illness and showcasing the effects of what he’s going through.
Beyond the darker elements of the themes, their love story is beautiful and inspiring, rising to the occasion of love in spite of impossible odds. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the limited series until I sat with the message and really reveled in the excellent performances. By far, the best part of the series was the cast. India Amarteifio, Corey Mylchreest, and Arsema Thomas in particular deliver breakthrough performances you will keep thinking about long after you’ve finished all six episodes.
