If you’ve landed on this article, you’re most likely wondering how the first season ends. Well, I’ll start by saying that XO, Kitty season 1 definitely ends in a way that sets up a potential second season. So if you haven’t made it to the end of the season, you might want to leave this article. But if you don’t mind being spoiled, go ahead and continue reading.
Major spoilers ahead from XO, Kitty.
XO, Kitty season 1 ending: Does Kitty get expelled from KISS?
Yes, Kitty gets expelled from KISS. Once the finals were graded, they were placed on the walls of the dormitories. Since Kitty was staying in the boys’ dorms, she had to check for her grades there. As she checks to see if she has passed her finals, a teacher notices her and calls her out. Then, she’s sent to the principal’s office.
As Principal Lim and other faculty discuss how they should reprimand Kitty, Kitty nervously sits in a seat, waiting for them to give her an answer. After coming to a decision, Principal Lim tells Kitty she’s expelled from KISS and won’t be allowed back. Remember, Kitty has a scholarship to KISS, and her scholarship has clear rules that she must follow in order to keep it. Staying in the boys’ dormitory goes against the rules, and apparently, expulsion is the punishment.
Could Kitty return to KISS if there is to be an XO, Kitty season 2? Of course! At the very end of the season, Yuri asks her mom to rethink expelling Kitty. Now that Yuri and her mom are in a good place, I’m sure her mom will listen to Yuri and find a way to bend the rules to get Kitty back at the boarding school. I mean, she did it with Madison.
Are Kitty and Alex related in XO, Kitty?
No, Kitty and Alex are not related. Kitty finds this out in episode 7 and tells Alex. After Kitty and Yuri sneak into Professor Lee’s home office to find a yearbook from the year 1993, they look inside the yearbook and find a picture of their moms together. But in the picture, Jina (Yuri’s mom) is pregnant and Eve (Kitty’s mom) isn’t. At this moment, Kitty realizes that she had it all wrong. She’s not Alex’s half-sister, but someone else is…
Who are Alex’s birth parents in XO, Kitty?
Alex chose to teach at KISS to find his birth father but ended up discovering his birth mom’s identity as well. Alex knew Professor Lee was possibly his father, but he got confirmation when he confronted Principal Lim about her being his mother. Principal Lim tells Alex that Professor Lee doesn’t know he has a son. Then, she tells Alex to give her some time but never gets back to him.
Principal Lim decides to tell Yuri about Alex, but she mentions Kitty’s name, and Yuri realizes that Kitty already knew that Alex was her brother and didn’t tell her. This drives a wedge between Yuri and Kitty. In the end, Principal Lim makes things right by telling Professor Lee that Alex is his son. She also decides to build a relationship with Alex by inviting him to spend time with her and Yuri during the holidays.
So, Alex’s birth parents are Principal Lim and Professor Lee, and Yuri is his half-sister.
Do Kitty and Dae end up together in XO, Kitty?
No, Kitty and Dae do not end up together at the end of the season. The night of the talent show, Kitty tells Dae that she likes Yuri, and Dae doesn’t take the news well. In fact, he walks away from her. They don’t speak again until Kitty arrives at the airport to go back home to Portland, Oregon.
As Kitty heads to her terminal at the airport, Dae calls out her name, and then they run to each other and embrace. Dae is ready to tell Kitty that he still wants to be with her, but Kitty breaks things off with him before he can. They share one last kiss before Dae leaves.
Kitty realized she had strong feelings for Yuri and knew she couldn’t continue a relationship with Dae. Although the rejection hurt Dae, he accepted Kitty’s decision. But it’s obvious he’s hoping they’ll get back together in the future.
Do Kitty and Yuri end up together in XO, Kitty?
No, Kitty doesn’t end up with Yuri either. Kitty realizes she has feelings for Yuri on the night of Min Ho’s party. However, she tries to suppress her feelings for Yuri because she’s in a relationship with Dae. But no matter how hard she tries not to think of Yuri romantically, she just can’t help herself, and she becomes tired of hiding her feelings.
She attempts to tell Yuri about her feelings several times but is constantly interrupted. After Kitty and Dae part ways at the airport, Kitty bumps into Yuri and tries to express her feelings again, but then Juliana arrives and interrupts her. So, she decides to keep her feelings to herself and board her plane back to Portland.
Do Kitty and Min Ho end up together in XO, Kitty?
No, Kitty and Min Ho do not end up together in the teen series. When Min Ho first meets Kitty, he instantly dislikes her. However, they grow closer and he starts to develop feelings for her. But he refuses to accept that he likes Kitty, so he tries to suppress his feelings. He even has a fling with Madison, but that doesn’t last long because he realizes he wants a relationship and Madison doesn’t.
In the final scene of the last episode, Kitty and Min Ho sit next to each other on the plane. Kitty tells Min Ho that she and Dae are no longer together, and Min Ho sees this as his opportunity to express his feelings to her. He tells Kitty he’s in love with her, but she doesn’t say anything back to him. She sits in her seat, shocked by what he just said. It’s unclear if Kitty has feelings for Min Ho, but she does smirk after she finds out. Could this mean she likes him back?
Do Q and Florian end up together in XO, Kitty?
Technically, Q and Florian end up together even though their relationship is in a weird place at the end of the season. Florian confesses to Q that he cheated on his finals so that he could stay at KISS. Obviously, Q isn’t happy about this, and he distances himself from Florian. To make matters worse, Florian gets the top spot in the class because of his high grades, jeopardizing Dae’s scholarship. The last scene we see of Q and Florian together is Q telling Florian that what he did was messed up. But we never see them break up.
Do Yuri and Juliana end up together in XO, Kitty?
Yes, Yuri and Juliana end up together at the end of the season. After Yuri and Principal Lim repair their relationship, Principal Lim lets Yuri know that she talked with Juliana’s parents. Principal Lim tells Yuri that she and Juliana’s parents accept their relationship and that Juliana is headed back to Seoul. Once Juliana arrives at the airport in Korea, Yuri runs to her and they embrace.
Who is Simon in XO, Kitty?
This is what we all want to know, but we don’t find out in the first season. Once Kitty sits in her seat on the plane back to Portland, she reads an old letter her mom sent to Principal Lim. The letter mentions a man named “Simon.” Kitty immediately thinks this mystery man is a person her mom dated before she got together with her dad. If there is to be a XO, Kitty season 2, I’m sure we’ll find out who this “Simon” person is.
Is Kitty bi in XO, Kitty?
Kitty doesn’t label her sexuality in the first season mainly because she’s still trying to figure herself out. Before attending KISS and meeting Yuri, Kitty probably never thought of liking girls. Now at 16 years old, she finds herself having feelings for a girl and it confuses her at first. But once she realizes she can’t fight the feelings any longer, she makes the decision to confess to the girl she can’t stop thinking about. So to sum it up, Kitty’s sexual orientation is unknown. The show will probably dive deeper into this if there is to be a second season.
05/24/23 UPDATE: Series creator Jenny Han confirmed that Kitty is bisexual.
Kitty doesn’t end up with anyone at the end of XO, Kitty season 1. However, she does end the season with three love interests: Dae, Yuri, and Min Ho. Fingers crossed, we get an XO, Kitty season 2 because we need to see how Kitty’s story continues.
XO, Kitty is streaming now on Netflix.
