XO, Kitty episode 5 recap: TBH

As we near the halfway point of the season, it’s time for a holiday episode with the arrival of Chuseok which is likened to Korean Thanksgiving and described as a celebration in which family comes together to share food and stories and to give thanks to their ancestors.

In an attempt to gather intel from Alex about what brought him to KISS in hopes of confirming her theory that he’s her long-lost brother, Kitty tells him about her plans to host a Chuseok at the school for expats without anyone to celebrate the holiday. It’s meant to be a way to talk to Alex but ends up becoming a full-fledged celebration as word spreads across the school.

While shopping for ingredients, Kitty bumps into Min Ho who volunteers to help her with the meal. The pair end up sharing a sweet bonding moment as Min Ho helps prepare the food for Kitty’s feast, as Kitty takes on her signature mashed potatoes.

It’s a good thing Min Ho stepped in, as Kitty’s Chuseok celebration draws a major turnout and shows the impact she can make as it’s revealed the celebration is the first of its kind in the school’s history.

Of course, Kitty is a woman on a mission and is determined to learn more about Alex. During their dinner, Alex begins to reveal the reason he came to KISS but his story is interrupted before he spills the full tea. However, we get an unexpected piece of the puzzle in the form of an awkward conversation between Alex and Professor Lee in which Professor Lee reveals KISS is his alma mater and discusses his views about being a parent.

When Kitty catches up with Alex after the Chuseok dinner, he reveals that he came to KISS after discovering Professor Lee is his father.

Odds and Ends

  • If you’re wondering what Dae was up to in this episode, he enjoys Chuseok with his little sister, dad, and Yuri. The pair bond over dinner and it’s clear a real friendship is beginning to form between the two. However, it’ll be interesting to see how that friendship fairs once the truth comes out about Yuri’s actions at the end of the episode in which she intercepts a gift from Kitty as she’s leaving Dae’s place — the gift being the necklace Kitty had previously gifted him and an apology note.
  • Yuri attempts to ask her mom about the history she shares with Kitty’s mom, but Principal Lim is adamant they were only roommates, nothing more.
  • As the episode ends, we see Principal Lim ripping a photo of herself and Kitty’s mom from an old yearbook and burning it — hinting there is definitely more to the story than Principal Lim has been letting on.
