Netflix shows canceled: Uncoupled

  • Created By: Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman
  • Starring: Neil Patrick Harris, Tuc Watkins, Tisha Campbell, Emerson Brooks, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Marcia Gay Harden

If you’ve been keeping up with Netflix’s track record, you’ll know the streamer doesn’t have many long-running comedies. More often than not, new comedy series will come out, generate a small fanbase, and then be swiftly canceled. Uncoupled isn’t the only example of that, as in the past couple of years we’ve seen new comedies like Blockbuster, Pretty Smart, The Big Show Show, and others get the boot.

Uncoupled is a romantic comedy that premiered in July 2022. The main draw for viewers to tune in was that Neil Patrick Harris starred, which for many is enough to at least watch the premiere. Darren Star, best known for creating beloved shows such as Sex and the City and more recently Emily in Paris, was a co-creator, so all in all Uncoupled had a lot of promise.

When the comedic series dropped, the general consensus was that it was decent. Not amazing but not bad at all. That said, we have to assume the viewership or completion numbers had to do with the cancellation. Netflix has not released that data for this particular show, so it’s hard to give a concrete answer as to why it was axed. According to The Wrap, though, Uncoupled only spent one week in Netflix’s Top 10, which pretty much sealed its fate.
