Much like GLOW, The Society and many other shows like ABC’s Stumptown and Showtime’s On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Netflix’s own teen superhero dramedy I Am Not Okay with This became the latest to have its renewal reversed. In the wake of added production costs and procedures brought on by COVID-19, some shows haven’t been deemed a worthy investment.

Based on Charles Forsman’s comic book of the same name, I Am Not Okay with This stars Sharp Objects breakout Sophia Lillis as Sydney Novak, a 17-year-old grieving the loss of her father to suicide. Constantly arguing with her mother and channeling her emotions into her journal, Sydney begins to notice strange occurrences happening around her. She soon realizes she’s developing telekinetic powers amid the average ups and downs of young adulthood.

Unfortunately, Netflix is a business at the end of the day, and it has to weigh the cost of a series versus its current viewership. While critically acclaimed and a budding cult hit, the series was apparently low on the totem pole. We may not be okay with Netflix not putting its faith in the future of I Am Not Okay with This, but we’ll always have the stellar first season.
