For many shows that were canceled after one season by Netflix, there’s one thing in common: Very little time elapsed between the premiere and the falling of the axe. As of late, if a show doesn’t break out within the first month of its premiere, the chances of it returning are increasingly slim. Slow burners don’t always have a place on Netflix — just ask Tuca & Bertie.
The adult animated comedy features the voices of comedians and actresses Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong as the titular mismatched bird pals. Together, they fumble through life one comical misadventure at a time, making us laugh along the way. The series also features a number of well-known guest stars whose voices you’ll definitely recognize.
Whether it’s on streaming or the small screen, animated sitcoms can generally last for many, many years (even decades, see: The Simpsons and Family Guy). But Netflix has gotten more discerning with which shows they keep around as of late. Tuca & Bertie barely had an opportunity to build an audience before word of mouth before the streaming giant sent these birds flying south after one season. Thankfully, Adult Swim has given the series a second chance for a hopefully longer run.
