Netflix shows canceled: Soundtrack

We can’t lie: Sometimes Netflix shoots itself in the foot with questionable rollouts. When the streaming network premiered its promising musical drama Soundtrack, the series seemed to have the potential to become the next big hit. However, burying the niche series in late December, when most people are looking to watch holiday movies and tentpole release, wasn’t so fair.

From Gossip Girl and Smash executive producer Joshua Safran, Soundtrack focuses on a diverse group of individuals in Los Angeles who are connected by their shared love for music. The series tells the interconnected love stories that have heart and harmony in common. Soundtrack was certainly a lighthearted escape from the darker fare we’re usually fed on streaming.

Although Soundtrack missed the beat and was canceled a mere month after release, it’s tough to say which factor contributed to its eventual fizzle. Whether lukewarm reviews or bad timing ultimately stopped the music remains to be seen, but Soundtrack should have been given a second — and better — chance to thrive. Considering its stellar cast and unique flare for storytelling, this one hit wonder is still worth putting on repeat.
