A soapy drama centered in the world of competitive figure skating… Doesn’t that just sound like a delectable recipe for a guilty pleasure gone viral on Netflix? Unfortunately, the New Year’s Day debut of Spinning Out in 2020 didn’t amount to the must-watch sensation online conversation we’ve become accustomed to since the era of quarantine binge-watching.

Spinning Out centers on Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), an up and comer in the icy world of ice skating, who nearly quits on her competitive skating dreams when an injury sidelines her upward trajectory. However, Kat finds a new opening to achieve her dreams as a doubles skater, though she continues to fight adversity on and off the ice with fellow skaters and internal struggles.

Even though Spinning Out earned mixed to positive reception from critics with its 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix opted not to renew the series about one month after its release. Perhaps the surefire guilty pleasure could have benefitted from a later release date to allow for more viewers to catch the skating drama. But it’s worth giving a shot to triple axel right into your heart.
