Netflix shows canceled: Cursed

  • Created by: Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler
  • Starring: Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgård, Daniel Sharman, Sebastian Armesto, Lily Newmark, Peter Mullan, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Bella Dayne and Matt Stokoe

Cursed looked plenty promising when it was first announced. It was based on a popular illustrated novel of the same name by Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller, plus it had 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford attached. Many fans had been eager to see what Langford would do after her starring role in the teen drama and films like Knives Out and Spontaneous.

Billed as a “re-imagining” of the Arthurian legend told through the eyes of a young heroine named Nimue (Langford), Cursed promised to be an epic fantasy adventure that would see Nimue partner with Arthur during his question to find Merlin and deliver the ancient sword. But throughout the first season and her journey, Nimue became a symbol of rebellion against the villainous Red Paladins and their leader King Uther.

Along with the fantasy elements, Cursed was also a coming-of-age story with romance and plenty of action. It seemed to have all the ingredients of a big success. In short, it might not have been the best show, but Cursed was plenty of fun, and it was led by an excellent performance from Langford. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see more of the story unfold.
