Netflix’s MerPeople explores the world of underwater performers (release date, trailer, and more!)

Have you ever been curious about the world of underwater performers? You might have seen videos on YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok following real-life mermaids who wear custom tails and swim in tanks to perform for thousands of people worldwide. Netflix’s upcoming documentary series MerPeople will take viewers under the sea and give them an in-depth, behind-the-scenes peek into the fascinating world of these glittering sea creatures and the men and women who bring them to life.

You might not realize it, but the world of professional mermaiding is a lucrative industry worth half a billion dollars. These folks take their mermaid duties very seriously, performing at conventions, ceremonies, and special events across the globe. In this docuseries, viewers will get to see the actual audition process and discover what it takes to become a mermaid.

MerPeople release date

MerPeople is coming to Netflix on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. It will start streaming at midnight PT/3:00 a.m. ET.

How many episodes is MerPeople?

The series consists of four episodes, and each one is about 45 minutes, give or take. Episodes will follow out-of-work mermaids looking for their next gig, the audition process, and the MerMagic Con, plus viewers can see how the mermaid tails are made.

Additionally, MerPeople features a behind-the-scenes look at Tampa’s Mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs and the crowning of the King and Queen of the Sea.
