Spoilers ahead from The Mother.
The Mother ending: Does the Mother take down Hector Alvarez and Adrian Lovell?
Yes! She takes down each of them at different times in the film. First, she kills Hector and then Adrian.
After Hector’s men abduct Zoe and take her to Cuba, the Mother and Cruise head to Cuba to save her. They find Hector’s safehouse and kill all of the guards surrounding it. Then, the Mother finds Zoe captive inside the building and takes her to Cruise. Next, she moves in on Hector, who’s hiding inside the building. Hector has the upper hand at first, but then the Mother head-butts him, deeply stabs him, and throws a candle in the room to set it on fire. Now, Hector is no longer a threat.
With Hector out of the picture, the Mother tells Cruise to take Zoe back to her adopted family while she goes back into hiding. But as Cruise takes Zoe back home, Adrian and his men ram into their car to stop them. They capture Zoe and Cruise, but the Mother is able to save Zoe. Now, they must go into hiding from Adrian. So the Mother takes Zoe to where she’s been hiding: Alaska.
There, she teaches Zoe how to protect herself because she knows Adrian will show up one day. However, she doesn’t let Zoe help her in taking down Adrian. Instead, she tells her former comrade from the military to take Zoe somewhere safe while she kills Adrian.
The Mother and Zoe don’t see eye to eye at first because Zoe wants the Mother to confess that she’s her mom and open up, but she refuses to do so. It’s not until Zoe finds baby pictures of herself and a letter that the Mother had been keeping that she realizes why her mom made the decisions she made. Now, she wants to help her mom defeat Adrian. So she sneaks away from her mom’s old friend and takes his car to find her.
The Mother waits near a cabin in the woods as Adrian and his men approach her. She had set up traps and explosives everywhere. While some of Adrian’s men are killed by the explosives, the Mother kills the others.
Zoe finally reaches where her mom is but is captured by one of Adrian’s men. However, the Mother saves her and tells her to run. But Zoe doesn’t run. Instead, she uses a sniper gun and watches her mom and Adrian fight. She waits on her opportunity to shoot Adrian.
When the opportunity comes, she shoots at Adrian, and he and her mom fall to the ground. Zoe goes to check on her mom but is captured by Adrian and forced into a car. As they drive off, the Mother wakes up and realizes she wasn’t actually shot with a real bullet. She looks around and sees Adrian and Zoe driving off in a car. She grabs the sniper gun near her and shoots at Adrian, killing him. Zoe gets out of the car, runs to her mom, and they hug. Then, the movie ends with the Mother returning Zoe to her adoptive parents. But now she will remain in Zoe’s life.
