Netflix has finally shared with us some new photos from the third and final season of Vikings: Valhalla, which will be released later this year. The new images tease what's ahead for characters like Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), in addition to introducing us to two new characters, a Byzantine general named Maniakes (Florian Munteanu) and Leif (Sam Corlett) and Freydís' father, Erik the Red (Goran Višnjić).

The second season of the series debuted in January 2023 and we haven't heard much about the final season since then, though production wrapped back in 2022. When the series was initially ordered, it was for 24 episodes, so we can expect the third season to conclude with another eight episodes, just like the first two seasons.

So far, there is no official release date for Vikings: Valhalla season 3, but we predict that it will come out in the first half of 2024.

We shared everything we know so far about Vikings: Valhalla season 3, and we’ll update this story when we find out more information about the new season. The latest update was on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

What will Vikings: Valhalla season 3 be about?

The second season followed the aftermath of the battle for Kattegat, which dashed the hopes and changed the paths of the show’s trio of heroes. They are now fugitives in Scandinavia, where they must confront how far they’re willing to go for what lies ahead.

Season 3 will pick up after the bloody carnage of season 2 that left the three main characters, Harald, Freydís, and Leif, separated from one another and it introduced a new arc that sees two of our heroes journey to Constantinople.

Speaking on the show's upcoming conclusion, co-creator and executive producer Jeb Stuart told Tudum that he's "grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydís."

"I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today, and we have done just that. I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes."

He mentioned that while there are, of course, always going to be more stories to tell regarding legendary characters such as these ones, he's happy with what they've been able to accomplish with the series and is eager for fans to see the conclusion.

Season 3 will be the last season

Despite co-creator Jeb Stuart previously discussing the possibility of an additional three seasons at Netflix, that is no longer the case and Vikings: Valhalla season 3 has been confirmed to be the final chapter of this epic saga.

Ahead of the show's return, Netflix is also going to be adding all six seasons of the parent series Vikings, starring Travis Fimmel and Katheryn Winnick. All episodes will be added to the streaming service beginning on March 30, 2024.
