Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story episode 2 recap: Honeymoon Bliss

The second episode picks up where the first episode left off. A young Queen Charlotte wakes up the next morning and gets ready for her day. However, she’s surprised to find out from Brimsley that she doesn’t get to officially start her duties as the Queen until her honeymoon is over.

Meanwhile, Princess Augusta meets with the councilors to discuss Charlotte’s court receiving titles and other things. Lord Bute tells Augusta that Parliament is calling what’s going on “The Great Experiment.”

The last topic they discuss is Charlotte and George consummating their marriage to have a baby. Lord Bute tells Augusta that George and Charlotte must have consummated their marriage on their wedding night or it would hurt the Great Experiment. Back at Buckingham House, Charlotte goes day by day suffering from boredom with no one to talk to.

Then, the episode cuts to the present time where Queen Charlotte tells her sons that they must produce a royal heir to continue the bloodline. Back in the past, a fed-up Charlotte decides to pay her husband a visit at his estate in Kew. While this is happening, Brimsley sleeps with Reynolds. Charlotte finds George in his observatory and begins questioning him and telling him how lonely she’s been since they got married. But George doesn’t sympathize with her. Instead, he tells Charlotte to go home.

The next morning, Brimsley and Reynolds meet with Princess Augusta and the councilors. Augusta asks Brimsley and Reynolds if George and Charlotte had sexual relations on their wedding night and Brimsley and Reynolds decide to lie and say that they did. Augusta and the councilors then laugh at the good news.

At the Danbury’s estate, Lady Danbury speaks to Coral while she takes a bath. She tells Coral that Lord Danbury was angry about being denied entry into a gentleman’s club that’s exclusively for the ton members even though he’s officially a ton member now. Meanwhile, Brimsley meets with Reynolds and tells him to convince George to make a gesture toward Charlotte so that they can be back on good terms. However, the gesture ends up being a failure because Charlotte doesn’t like the Pomeranian dog that George gifts her.

Later, Charlotte invites Lady Danbury to Buckingham House to have tea. During their conversation, Lady Danbury finds out from Charlotte that she and George haven’t consummated their marriage yet. So, she helps Charlotte out by drawing pictures and explaining what happens when one performs the marital act. Charlotte still doesn’t want to go through with it at first, but she eventually listens to Lady Danbury.

Then, we cut to the present time where Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, and Violet Bridgerton meet for tea. Charlotte asks for their advice on how they got their kids to marry respectable people. Violet tells her it helps if love is involved while Lady Danbury disagrees and says that marriage is a duty. Although Charlotte listens to their advice, she decides that she’s going to find wives for her sons and order them to marry.

Back in the past, Princess Augusta invites Lady Danbury over to her palace to discuss some things. First, Augusta asks Lady Danbury what she talked about with Charlotte the other day but Lady Danbury doesn’t reveal anything. Augusta then tells Lady Danbury that she needs someone who can give her constant updates on what’s going on at the Buckingham House. But Lady Danbury only agrees to help if she and her husband are treated as equal members of the ton.

At Buckingham House, Charlotte walks into the dining room to have dinner and sees George. At first, Charlotte doesn’t want to talk to George but he convinces her to go with him to his observatory. He apologizes to Charlotte for how he’s been acting and they make up. Then, George packs his things and moves to Buckingham House. Later, they finally consummate their marriage. Elsewhere, Lord and Lady Danbury move into their new estate given to them by the British monarchy. This means Lady Danbury has decided to help Princess Augusta.

Back at Buckingham House, Charlotte stands outside a room and secretly listens to George and Augusta argue. Based on what George tells his mother, it seems as if he doesn’t truly want to be with Charlotte and that it’s just a duty. This is how Charlotte takes it, and she walks away sad.

Later, Reynolds checks up on George, and suddenly George collapses. It seems that George suffers from a serious health condition. The episode ends with Reynolds promising George that Charlotte will never know of his health condition and then he goes to get a doctor.
